I recently got the Audiovox aps996 alarm/remote start with two-way pager ($300, installed). Its pretty good feature-wise and with functionality. However, it has some issues with reliability and installation difficulties. Considering that Audiovox has decent customer service and helped me out with the problems I had with it, its a decent choice, if you can deal with the occasional problem it might spit out. On average, Audiovox systems will be $50 - $100 cheaper installed than similar Viper systems. Other than reliability (which Viper excels at) there isnt much of a difference between the two companies.

As a general rule you should never advertise what kind of alarm system you have. If somebody wants to tamper with your car, you have made it easier for them to do it because they may know the weakness of your alarm. Just some free advice.

The siren isn't too hard to install if you have some basic knowledge of tools... You basically position the siren facing downward (so that it doesn't retain water) in a spot where it is not obstructed and the sound will not be muffled. Then you screw it into the wall and make sure you dont hit any wires or lines. The wires you run through the firewall and connect to the alarm's brain inside. You might have to drill a hole in the firewall for this step, but make sure the setup is waterproof before you're done (use some sort of rubber seal). Thats it.

If you don't know if it is easy to install, then it will not be easy for you. If you have to ask, then the answer is no.

I would recommed you taking your car to someone knowledgeable in alarm system installation. If you don't feel comfortable doing it, you will probably screw something up and make your car worse.

this is one thing you dont want to be a penny pincher with...focking with your electrical system/ignition

buy a code alarm reasonably priced and find an installer- or there are so many places that sell/intall alarms for ~$199-$250
