True enough. The stock piping is crush bent, so if you measure it along a bend, it will have a smaller diameter than if you measure it along a straight length of pipe. That says nothing, of course, of the substantial restriction in the pipe just aft of the resonator where the brace is attached. I'd guess the overall diameter of the pipe at that point to be no more than 1.5". The pipe is also restricted where it enters the resonator, but not so severely.

And yet HKS could only coax 5 hp out of a custom, mandrel-bent catback exhaust on their 5th Gen. Kind of makes you wonder, doesn't it?

STILLEN they rape us, cause they have the only really proven Power Adder to our car. GReddy....same shizz as HKS. Cattman, his products are proven and at least he works with everyone, same as Don in Texas.
My car, I just built with my own two hands, and didn't spend even the price of the GReddy on the car....including the HIDs. My 95 Maxima is coming out lovely, first thing I did was exhaust work...cause its a damm shame.

I took a similar approach. I went to a reputable muffler shop and had them build a mandrel-bent catback exhaust system for my Maxima. The total cost of the system with a Magnaflow muffler was $275.00. The SS tip cost extra.

I should note that the exhaust piping is aluminized mild steel rather than stainless. I live in Southern California so that's not a problem.

Hey Y2KSE, I got the aftermarket muffler for my MAX. I went to Mikes muffler. He did a great job. I got the 20 inch Magnaflow with the Sebring tuning tip. It looks great and its not too loud. Theres enough growl to the exhaust without being annoying. He even made it into a bolt on so there was no cutting of the stock piping. Thanks for your help Y2KSE!!!!!!

The stock piping that comes with the maxima is bigger than what the guy installed for me when i took my muffler to get it welded... I had him change the pipe from the resonator to the muffler and he went with a smaller pipe... not sure if that is a problem or not... but i think they are 2.25"
