and I couldn't believe how much it rattled inside when driving over bumps and stuff. I mean it sounded like I was riding in a old Ford Mustang covertable or something.

My car is much, much quieter than the 2004.

Shame on Nissan.

speaking of looking the same...i was probably a 1/4 mile behind what i thought was a maxima so i sped up and realized that it was a VW Bug. It was at night and raining so it was hard to see... but I never realized that our tailights were so similiar. i don't care though, i still love our design.

No, I don't plan on driving one either. I have only had my car since January 2002. I see the 2004 at the dealer all over the lot.

I though the 04 was awesome. My co-worker has one and he took me for a ride in it. I was most impressed by the fit and finish. The leather was nice, the gagues looked good, I was overall impressed. I'm not too fond of the exterior styling but it's fast and comfortable. I read a review is car and driver and they compared all of the 04 luxury sedans. One of the negatives that they said was that it was loud and bumpy on city roads. But take that ride on the interstate and you don't even realize your doing 115. It's awesome.

Same engine as my car and the 04 is awful looking and heavier. If I was in the market today I would get a used gen 5.

I understand how you can say that, seeing as how you own the 3.0. Us 3.5ers can speak differently due to the fact that in essence we have the same engine as the 6th gen.

I had the chance to upgrade and declined.....I love my 5.5 gen

my brother is actually in the market for one..we went and took one out for a testdrive for about an hour..I love the interior the best of it all, but when I took it for a drive, you could feel every bump (as if I was in mine, got Progress springs w/ stock shocks) and vibration in the steering was harsh as well..the power is nice but to me it feels my 2K3 is a tad quicker, Im thinking cuz of the weight difference..all in all a nice car, but I still love my 5th GEN more!!

This is hilarious because yesterday I was pulling up behind an 04 and for a second thought it was a beetle. What a totally shapeless rear end. Thank god I found an 03 with a 6 spd.

yes, I had a 24 hr test drive '04 SE and I was not
impressed- not enough to trade in my SE-
I found visibility (rear window ) an issue and if you show me orange gauges again
although all around still a very nice product

When I saw the '04 Max at the Philly auto show a few weeks before it went into production, my decision to buy the '03 Max was instantly made. I quickly went to the dealer and got the last '03 6sp they had and have no regrets whatsoever about my decision.
I'm not saying I don't like the '04 but it's just seems to have lost that something in spirit that the Max has been for the last 15 years. The V6 Altima is more of a Maxima to me than the '04 but with that p!ss-poor interior you won't catch me dead in one.

Surprised to hear you like the interior. I love the exterior on the 6th gen - so much cleaner and sleeker than the 5th (except for the ugly front end tooth and lights spaced awkwardly far apart). However, I couldn't stand that rediculous looking fake chrome prarie in the center of the dash and the toyish looking wheel. The 6th gen interior feels like a cheesy gimmick compared to the classic style of the 5th gen IMHO.

Time will tell...

I test drove the 04 Max and I didn't like the styling especially the center ceiling
window plus it looked too much like an altima. I test drove the 04 Altima SE and
like it so much so, I bought it for my son as a christmas present.

the front grill, rear end, and egg shaped body was what scared me into getting the 2k1 5 speed.

I bought my 02 se from a dealership. The salesman who sold it to me, it was his and he traded it in the day before for an 04 se. I went back a week later to pick up the valet key and he said he missed is car. LOL
