Rustproofing

Anybody living in cold snowy climes where salt is used on the roads? What do you think the best rust protection is, light oil based or the heavier coatings?

Thanks MCE

Hi I live near Kitchener Ontario and for the last 12 years I have used either Rustcheck or Krown. The chemical spray they use apparently is supposed to be the same. I have had all my cars sprayed with it. The trick is to find a good shop that will take the time to apply it properly and into all the areas that might be prone to rust.
It is about 85 to 100 dollars. Works great and does not affect the rubber parts like used or recycled oil does. You can also spray it any time of year as opposed to oil which is to be sprayed in spring or fall.

Be careful though they do not spray to close to the sensors or it may trigger the SES light.
It is great stuff and a must in areas where they spread raod salt and sand.
Hope that helps.
Paul

don't drive in salt with a maxima, or you could end up like mine did, rustproofing or not:
