[QUOTE=Quicksilver]You have a bum ECU program then, because there are auto '02-'03's that can do 140+...

Your right Nissan is doing the same thing they did with the 4th gen some were limited to 108 by the ECU and tires and other could go well beyond 120 or so, I remember the threads going back and forth in the 4th gen forum. Some 02/03 Se autos have gone beyond 130 and some seem to be limited to 130 by the "ECU" its definately not by drag or the Tires which are V rated on the SE. Heck my 89 Maxima GXE with 160 hp and 205,000 can still reach 125-130 and not break a sweat.

I have a hard time believing your car accelerated that way. If it did you've got a pefect vehicle. Usually there are some blips in the graph as revs and speed can't match perfectly. If you've found a way to do this then F1 and NASCAR should be beating your door down. There will generally be some overrun as max rpms are reached in each gear and should be a dip in speed as the gear change is made.
That plot only goes from 120-144, so there won't be any blips where he shifts (no shifting involved). Maybe the resolution on the dyno wasn't good enough to show all of the little deviations from the straight line showed. Or, maybe they just used a linear regression line to plot it. Maybe it really is that good? Who knows, but I doubt he made a false plot so that he could tell people in this thread that his car has made it up to 144mph.

man, if you guys wanna go 150+, get a sportbike add to that, there's no 3000 lbs of metal framework around you did a buck-60 on my r1, didn't notice until i slowed down how hard i was gripping the clip-ons and how long i held my breath.

They are limited to 155 electronically, but I think they are also geard to about 155 as well (stock). There are performance axle ratios from BMW and others that can change that, along with ECU tuning.

Had my Max up to 120 on the stock suspension (but better tires and a damn good alignment job) going down hwy 360 here in N. Texas. It actually stayed fairly composed through a couple of lane change maneuvers. But the stock brakes take a loooooooong time to whoa from 120 to 60, even freshly padded. I can't afford suspension mods yet..but when I can...

NO NO NO. YOU CAN HIT 147 (top speed in an auto). I've hit 135 but wasn't to fond of going so fast so I slowed down.

I don't know about the top speeds (I'm not that stupid )... but I just wanted to comment on car control at 100+ mph. I've had my 02' 6 at 120 mph on several occasions and the car felt quite solid. I thought it might start getting some pretty good lift and drift a bit. But nope, I was pleasantly surprised... stock suspension too. Never got much past 120 though, the car seems to get up to 120 pretty quick, but after that acceleration slows down and I was never comfortable going over small hills at those speeds in case a cop would be hanging out. Never got on a flat enough run with no traffic.

Of course one of the times I broke 120 I had 3 other people in the car on a bit of a road trip(Octerberfest) and being the idiot I was kept bouncing around between 100 and 120 after it was dark. I notice in my rear view mirror a car keeping up with me. When I slowed down and noticed he did as well I knew I was screwed. Gotta love state troopers. Apparently he had followed me for about 8 miles. My 3 passengers were all female and were making some pretty funny wise cracks about favors to get the trooper to let me off. The guy was somewhat cool about it though, only wrote me up for 102 in a 70. In this state if you exceed 35 over with a passenger you can get in some deep stuff.

Since than I don't drive that fast anymore. Shoot it up to 90 or 100 on fun occasions passing commuting traffic or what not, but no more "idiot" driving. I'm getting too old and mature for that stuff.

hmm.....the highest I ever pushed the speed is 110mph but I didn't push it further cuz I'm not risking my life if a tire blows out or rollover accident.

I hit 136 in my 01 and thats where the rpm pushed back. Meaning i hit the speed governer.

In my 02 I hit 129-130mph but I had also another passanger, which i think slowed me down a bit...but it didnt push fast at that speed and it takes a long time to gain 1 mph. Of course the car didnt feel as stable as my 01 but still pretty good for a stock SE maxima. I bet the rear beam plus the 17" wheels make it stable.

How come when it gets to those speeds 120+, it takes a very long time to gain speed? from 120-130mph , those 10mph were a b!tch but I still didnt hit the governer so why did it pull so slow?

Sorry bro, you are wrong on this one. ALL 2k2-3 autos cut off at 130 mph. Believe me, ive hit it about a dozen times, uphill, downhill sideways etc........If you get an Apexi RSM, or the TS ECU, you can go a lot faster.

All we did was drive it up to that speed. My be that's how the dyno graphs it out.

no no no no no
you are all wrong, i have a 2k auto and i have had it to 160 many times. there is no limiter, and no governor on that car. just because it is an auto doesnt mean that it is all computerized and a manual isnt. plus if you know anything about tranny's you would know that manual and auto is not the ise, but that on all cars the ecu controls the engine's rpm's on a limiter, and the gear it can be in. not the speed of the car.

160 in a nissan maxima (any year) auto, completely stock... right

and if you knew anything about cars you'd know the tranny has little to do with top speed. It's as much about gearing and drag as it is hp.

and you're going to need to prove that 160mph claim, but I'm calling

I agree, your car can do more, but then again the speedo's are less accurate the faster you go. My car wont go above 135-136 @ 5590' above sea level, 95 4th gen auto see Sig. . .209k miles.

like I said when mine was done on a dyno the car went into some kind of fail-safe and kick the O/D off and so we shut it down.

My fuel cuts off at 131mph, it's not an Aerodynamic brick. You guys without a limiter must have lots-O-fun going faster than that

Had '03 6sp up to 132 mph on I95 through Philly but had to slow down for a curve and a cop. It definitely had alot more to give at that speed but I would need ALOT more room to top it out. At that speed, left and right don't mean anything anymore. It's more like flying an airplane on the ground. I guess I'll never see the top speed in mine and that's OK. I was scared later when I thought how comfortable and quiet the ride was at that speed and how if I had to make an emergency maneuver or just complete the curve in the highway, I would have been toast.

By the way, someone with a 3rd gen posted a video from their driver's or passenger's seat doing 155mph a few months ago. Anyone have that link?

I hit 135 in my 00' max that is stock right now without a problem. And it feels the same going 135 as it feels going 65. I raced a 3000gt SE and we hit about 135 at one point going on the interstate between DFW and Austin. And yes, I did beat him all 4 times we raced.
