Are you happy with that, I can hit 145 in my 3rd gen and I have it on tape, you can ask JTMax03, he was filming my dash.

Nice pic Greek.

And don't worry. At those speeds, the thugs on the NJ Turnpike won't be able to catch you.

Hmm...wasn't the limiter at 140mph?

I've never tried it on my 03 Maxima AT, but...isn't the speed limiter on these cars at 140mph? According to some of the Car magasines...it should be 140mph. I better try it.

I don't know how you guys can go that fast in these cars. To be honest, i just don't trust these cars at fast speeds. 100 mph is about tops for me. I have gone 160 before, but it was in my 91 300zx TT. I felt a little bit safer in that car because it was low as **** to the ground, plus the electronic suspension (made for speed). I give you guys a lot of respect.

If the 4th gens could do 130+ Auto, the 5th gens with the 3.5 should easily beat that. Perhaps if you turn OD off until you are at 130 (in which you are near redline of 3rd gear) and then switch OD on you should be able to reach 140.

I got my auto to 144 MPH. I have the Apex-i RSM to remove speed limiter. I did it on a dyno and have graph. My auto would only go to 144 MPH reason is the car goes into some sort of fail safe and shut the car down and turned off O/D.

My fuel cut off is at 135, well that is what the spedo says. Doesnt mean its right. I think my max handles better the faster she goes. That is with a good amount of supension work. It also has alot to do with how comfortable u feel with your car, and your driving ability to go that fast. Wait, mabey im just not all there. I think the the last explanation is the closest to the truth. anways try and bend your spedo needle then mabey u could go faster

When does the ECU officially hit fuel cut? I would say with the stock H rated tires they set it up to hit at 130-135. Mt Talon TSi does the same exact thing for the same exact reason. Fuel cut hits at 137, the car will pull like a banshi up to 135, and I still have 1500 RPMs to redline in that car. I'm guessing that car would hit redline around 160-165.

I never tried it in my max, it's my 'family' car.

so doesn't this just prove what we've been saying for years? The auto is ECU-limited at 130.

why "should" it go faster? Nissan decided to make it stop accelerating at 130 so that's as fast as it should go.

The push back you felt was drag caused by your "areo" kit.
At 110 my 83 Jag XJ6VDP used to squat on the suspension and really hug the road. It'd freak people out when the car sat down.

144 on a dyno doesn't count -- no aero drag factored in.

I've seen 150+ a few times but only on 2 wheels.

130, huh...

I guess that's IS the top speed of us auto's. It's not like we really need to go any faster.

But it's not that conforting knowing that every single car I've driven (in the past) could go faster. And one was a 4-banger turbo. (Mustang SVO)

Oh well.

myownnisom -- that has got to be the most linear dyno sheet I've ever seen.
I have a hard time believing your car accelerated that way. If it did you've got a pefect vehicle. Usually there are some blips in the graph as revs and speed can't match perfectly. If you've found a way to do this then F1 and NASCAR should be beating your door down. There will generally be some overrun as max rpms are reached in each gear and should be a dip in speed as the gear change is made.

When I had my runoff (NJ Turnpike) with a 3.5RL, I think I hit "a" fuel cutoff at little over 130mph (speedo); I guess that explains why the RL began to gain on me at this speed.

Myownnismo, the Apex'i RSM circumvents the speed governor??? (I always thought the Apex'i Power PC defeated the limiter.)

I had my max up to about 133 down a hill (2002 auto se), it could have gone faster but there was a curve ahead. That was when it was stock as they come, I had no problems and the car felt pretty planted but I have a motorcycle and really don't get bent out of shape going that fast. I know the maxima is a lot faster but I had my spec-v up to about 137 before I traded it in...that was a pretty QUICK car..

Yea I guess its the auto that messes up the 255 crank horses. Pathetic tranny. Just that like a mechanic friend of mine told me "The 255 is there at low end but the those horses turn into ponies at high end" Guess he was right .

Indeed! C&D measured the topend of the 6sp @ 147mph, so you'd be on your way if you hadnt run out of road.

Thats your speed limiter for sure...your car should be able to go about 140 on a downhill if not flat land. Time for an RSM.

Well he said that the 6-speed should be completely different, in that statement he said it with the 4-speed auto in mind

You have a bum ECU program then, because there are auto '02-'03's that can do 140+...

It could be that your top speed is slightly less due to the less powerful engine in your car...

sorry if my answer before was short... my head is spinning from all the fumes in my house

top speed has a lot less to do with hp than gearing. The 4-speed auto can go faster than 130mph but it's limited by the computer.

His comment about gearing is more correct, so he's not an idiot (but in my defense your first post basically said it was because of the tranny).
