question about clear taillights

Has anyone installed the cleartails on the 5th gen... you know the one southwest autoworks sells?
I know they aren't street legal, but can't you just put in the color bulbs to make them legal? I really would like to install them but i dont want the cops harassing me... (they already bother me for my tint) Any suggestions?

Pretty sure that you have to have red reflectors on the rear of your car too. So, just adding colored bulbs might not be enough.

as long as you have red bulbs for ur braking, and amber for your turning you should be fine. Look at the new lexus rx330, they have all clear taillights with colored bulbs as well.

They also have red reflectors on the back... At least I'm pretty sure they do.

So all we have to do is go to homedeblow and get some reflective red and white tape and stick it all over our bumper…. ( Wide load sticker may also help for transporting RICE !!! ) .....

Since they are already aware of your car, why give them another reason to stop you? My suggestion is to fuhgidabowdit.

All they had to do was keep the directional clear like the 01's and they would be so sweet...The orange kills it IMO.

UMM......from what I've Found out NO. You can have Clears on the back, just need red Bulbs.

I went to a car show today and I've checked out the LEXUS with Clears.

All it had was red bulbs. NO REFLECTORS. I was looking at it for 10 min. People were looking at me strangely, (so my friends say) cause I was so hypnotized by them.

I like the clears quite alot. If i ever do it i would use small red reflectors with threaded posts as lic. plt. fasteners.

They are on the bumper thats how they come from the factory beacuse its "REQUIRED". If that Lex did not have em, its because they were removed....

The reflectors "DO NOT" have to be in the tails themselves, only the proper colored bulbs.

CASE CLOSED AGAIN....

Thanks for the info. Anyways, i think i will put in the clear tail lights with red bulbs... see how it goes. Hopefully Phxblue's east coast colleagues won't bother me... (...but they probably will.)

Exactly. Red reflectors have to be visible from the rear and the rear-side.

If people would stop staring at the tail lamps themselves, they would realize that the reflectors are on the bumper.

Then are the clear corner lights illegal? cause i got no red reflector on the sides since i put in the clear corner lights.

The reflectors are on the taillight enclosure. Two strips for 2000-2001 and one strip for 2002-2003.

Technically speaking, the clear corners can be white or clear as long as there's a red bulb in it. As far as i can tell, it's having white bulbs that's illegal because white bulbs are illegal to begin with. (may vary from state to state).

It depends on where you are. I know for a fact that here in CA, we are required to have red reflectors on the rear-sides and amber reflectors on the front-side. I've been pulled over and given a fix it ticket for my front clears before. Check your local laws to be sure.

Re-read this thread. The Lexus has red reflectors on the rear bumper. The Maxima's are integrated into the tail lamps. So if you get clear tails, you lose your rear reflectors. The reflectors on the bumper are the reason why the RX330 can pull them off. Unless you have them on your bumper, you can't use the RX330 as an excuse.
