If you plan on using your current Max as a trade-in.. I'd say offer them the 15K out the door, anything more then that and you may as well be looking at 2k2 Maximas.

I don't believe a dealer has to tell you how long a particular unit has been sitting at their lot, but for $hits and giggles, you should ask. If the thing has been sitting for over 30 days, you are in a fairly good position to negotiate, and also, don't think twice about heading for the exit if the dealer gives you ANY problems. End of month they will listen to any offer...

Walk in and tell them to name a price, on the road, out the door, everything. Make sure they know that they only have 1 chance and you are dead serious about buying if the number is right. You may be pleasently suprised when they offer, this is how I have bought all my cars..no negotiating..it works.

There is significant difference between the 01 and 02 Max - engine, performance, content etc. If you can afford $1k to $2k more, get the 02 or 03 Max. I also heard that the 2k and 2k1 Maxes have more problems, but cannot vouch for it because I own neither.
