Service engine soon light??...

i noticed the other day that my service engine soon light came on... is there something i need to be worried about or is this just another attempt by nissan to take more money out of my wallet by making me come in for needless service to turn off the light... my 2k1 AE has 40K.

well what you can do before anything is take your car to your local autozone , and tell them that you want to know whats wrong with your car, then they will run the codes. post the codes here, you will get help asap.

Unless he lives in California. He would have to take it to the dealer or find someone with an OBD-II reader or maybe go to autozone and buy the OBD-II reader for 150$$$$$$$$

No in California they are now prohibited from running codes for you. Seem's some idiots went complaining to the State's Consumer Affairs Dept that the dealer told them different as to what the codes meant........

My check engine light came on yesterday. I bought a OBD II code scanner. The scanner did not work apparently the Max requires a Consult II to retrive the codes.

An OBD-II reader will work fine. Sounds like you either didn't hook it up or configure it right or you purchased a reader which doesn't have the right protocol for Asian/European cars (ISO 9131). Which one did you purchase?
