Cattman/Progress RSB, need pics or links..

I was in the middle of installing the RSB but noticed that the threads on the U-bolt that goes over the axle seems a bit too short. Did anyone else have this problem? I screwed the lock nut in as far as possible but it was about 1/3 of an inch from the axle beam.

I need some pics or a link to show me the exact placement of the U-bolt, not sure how far I should place it over the axle. I know there is a lot of pics and links of the Stillen bar but I need some for the Cattman bar..can anyone help?

thanks!

yes I did...I am thinking maybe I didn't push the u-bolt far apart enough, but even that wouldn't have gained me much...

There should be more than enough thread to put the nut on unless they sent you a shortened u-bolt.

Yup, I think they did send me the wrong part. See in your picture how the nut goes all the way to the bracket...when I turn the nut all the way up, I run out of thread and can't get the u-bolt tight...I guess I will just run to the parts store and get a different u-bolt...

THANKS!!

make sure u get a real heavy duty one because if u get some flimsy one, your bar will come off pretty quick

they sold you a 99-95 bar, their rear axis bean is more smaller. but the bar should be the same size.

I just got mine in the mail today for my 02. The u bolts measure just under 4.5 inches tall, with about 1.25 inches of thread at each end. Is that the same for yours? I tried to fit mine on there without acutully usign the nuts, and it looks like it's perfect. The threads go all the way up to where the washer will sit on the backer plate (but they don't go further than that!). Not sure if that will change once I torque it down, but,If they do, I'll just add some washers. If I were you I'd try the washer approach before the new U Bolt......never know how crappy a U bolt from HD or Lowes might be for that kind of G force.

Don't have the u-bolts in my hands now but I will measure it up and see if it matches yours (prob. do it tomorrow evening). Thanks for the washer tip, I was also thinking of metal bushings that they have at hardware stores as an alternative...guess its the same concept as stacking washers...

The RSB will fit a 95-2003. Make sure the U-Bolt is pushed all the way down. When I installed mine, i had to tap it down with a hammer to seat it. Chris

I just measured mines...it is the same measurement as yours. When I was trying to install it, I turned one of the nuts all the way up to the end of the thread and had about 1/3 of an inch play left; this was with the backplate and bushing...I would advise you to buy some washers and have it on hand just incase you are in the same situation as I was in. Not sure when I will have time to try again..too cold out these days (~20 degrees).

Or another problem may have been ME...I always doubt myself when working on cars, guess I am a little paranoid...

Do put some anti seize compound and torque the bolts down properly and you should be fine.

Yeah, give it another shot. There's only one Progress bar sold for maxima's by SWA, and since you have the same u bolts as me, you may have had the ubolt mis-aligned. the rear beam is not flat, it sits at an angle. You could have had the u bolt flat (meaning totally straight up and down versus angled the same as the beam), which would make one of the parts of the u bolt have more length. I held on my u bolt, back plate, and bushing by hand and made sure to pull both ends of the u bolt to the same length.

However, I will keep my washers handy though. they sure helped me on my ebay front strut bar!
