Going to try the custom LED tails approach?

Going to try and do a LED tails like Araffio. This is my plan.
1. Buy extra 00-01 SE tail off ebay
2. Paint clear piece red so it's a full red circle
3. install LED's in rows like this parking, brake, parking, brake, parking also going done through turn signal using red LED's if paint doesn't give off enough red and goind in rest of light turn signal, parking, turn signal, parking.

So it will look like this

Parking
Brake
Parking
Brake
Parking
Turn Signal
Parking
Turn signal
Parking

What do you think.

Problem is our 5th gen tails don't come apart. Are you planning on cutting it open on the back (inside) side?

I don't know what you're doing, but you need an extra pair of 2000-2001 SE tail lights, I'll sell you mine.

That's the point of buying the extra light. I am going to try and cut the back off and seal a piece of plexiglass holding the LED's to the back.

Limsandy Thanks for the offer but I only want to get one. unless your selling for a good price.

there's already a 5th gen .orger who's done this....or rather, he's almost done. i shoud know, i told him how to wire up the resistors and the led's. if i'm not mistaken, he used somewhere in the market of 100-200 led's total on both tail lights. but i cna't spill the beans, so i'll keep my mouth shut...but he's from NY, and he was at my house when i installed the hella's for a buncha guys.

and by the way, you can open up your tails. and yes, they can look nice. i'm just too lazy to do it

If opening the OEM is tougher, it may be worth your while (e.g. easier?) to try the aftermarket clear tails that SWA sells.

Just a thought.

Wish you the best with this project...please keep us informed on how it goes. I'm interested in seeing this.
I heard you bake the tail lights as well and use a sharp knife or something to cut the seal that attaches both sides of the lights....i dunno about that though...just hear say.

That's cool, But that's not going to stop me from doing it. I have a mill at work that I can make all the holes on the plexiglass fast and perfectly spaced. If I can take them apart that will be even better. Best of luck to him and hope I can do the same.

you have a great idea but you are getting IMO too complicated with all of that in one place just worry about the running one and the full stop...IMO

The only thing is that in a 5th gen it looks real ugly the same way leds look in the G35 no line of leds will look good in a curved enclousure, the only way in my opinon is a non see through just like in the Benz and Cadillacs, you dont want to see LEDs you just want the effect thats it, IMO rows will look a little to rice for my taste...

So to get them to look super Phat put them as close together as possible. I Think I am going to rethink this. Yeah how did you get the lights open. If I can get them open I can paint my bottom clear part red without taking chances of getting on reflector part.
