shifting in cold weather: 2k2 6spd

Sorry if this has been asked already, but I'm having problems shifting gears in cold weather. It was 20 degrees out her in Chicago and I couldn't shift into reverse at all. I called my Nissan dealer who said he's already seen a couple complaints on this, but that the only options I had were to drive it around long enough for the gear box to warm up or pay to have them replace the stock gear oil with a synthetic.

I think it's pretty damn lame that I'm pretty much SOL in cold weather. I was lucky I was parked in a uphill spot or else I would've had to start pushing. Anyone else having this problem? Anyone have any recommendations?

Just swapped to Redline MT-90 and it does help with cold weather shifting. Pretty simple swap. I posted a how-to w/ pics at http://maxima.cardomain.com/memberpage/313356/9

I live in Chicago area too and have a 2k2 six speed, sometimes when I leave for school in morning I experience trouble going into reverse too, sometimes it doesn't wanna going in, others it just goes in half way, I just go back to neutral, release clutch, press clutch fully, then try to re engage reverse again, and most of the time it just go in, others i have to do it twice. But Doesn't bother me at all.

It's a normal problem for manual transmissions using conventional gear oil - I had one M/T car that would creep in neutral when cold until I put in Amsoil. Synthetic is the answer.

This may sound strange, but what happen to letting the car warm up? Also, engaging and disengaging teh clutch will loosen things up? Is this your first manual car?

Warming it up while stationary doesn't seem to help, nor did engaging/disengaging the clutch. It was stuck real good. But it did slip right into first.

I used to have an '84 M/T Civic that never had this problem.

Thanks to everyone else. Looks like I'll be going synthetic.
