Here's a little background:

2000 Max SE, 5 Sp. Manual, C&C, Bose, 17" alloys. Purchased used with 10,000 miles two weeks ago.

After driving it around a bit I hear an annoying "creaking" noise whenever I hit a bump coming from the passenger side around the dashboard, front windshield pillar, passenger door area. I had my girlfriend check it out when she was in the car one day and she couldn't find where the noise was coming from. She even checked the glove compartment.

Also noticed that the right headlight was not aimed properly.

So... Yesterday, I take my car to Cowles Nissan in Woodbridge, VA for a 7:30 service appointment. I tell them about the problem and they tell me they will test drive it to take care of it. I also purchased the car there.

I finally get a call at 6 p.m. saying my car is ready. Get to the dealer to pick it up the service summary says "Drove the car 12 miles... did not hear creaking noise. Headlights not aimed properly. Aimed headlights".

So naturally, I'm annoyed that they can't find the creaking noise after having my car all day, when I can hear it after being in the car for a couple of minutes.

So I leave the dealership, driving along. Just studying the aim of the headlights to see if they fixed the problem. My right headlight is now aiming into outer space. They didn't fix the problem. They made it worse. That's if they did anything with it at all.

Now, I have to take the car back again on Thursday for them to fix it again.

Anyway, I have a few questions/issues that I would like comments on after discovering these problems. I know that these issues have been discussed time and time again but any information is appreciated. Oh, guys with paint chips, I will gladly add a thread to that message.

1. Anyone have a problem with headlight alignment with their Maxima?

2. Anyone hear the mysterious 'creaking' noise coming from the dash when going over bumps?

3. When accelerating shortly after first driving does anyone hear a high-pitch 'screaming' noise coming from the rear of the car, rear wheels, axel, suspension. It's temporary then goes away.

4. Is the 3/4 - 1 inch raise when putting the sunroof in 'tilt' mode typical. Seems like a very minimal tilt. Aerodynamics? Wind deflector considerations?

5. And what's up with the weak windshield? Got a nick in the windshield a couple of hours after first driving it off the lot.

Thanks,

OnyxMax

Nope.

2. Anyone hear the mysterious 'creaking' noise coming from the dash when going over bumps?
A nice piece of form will fix that for you. Try searching with the search feature in this forum for dash rattle. I believe there is a TSB for it also.

Yes, it's very minimal. Get a wind deflector and use the slide feature.

5. And what's up with the weak windshield? Got a nick in the windshield a couple of hours after first driving it off the lot.
I have two nicks... one humonguos and one small.

1.)My right headlight aims higher than my left, but I just thought that was how it was supposed to be.
2.)Might be the front shock slowly expanding after being compressed. I think mine might do this.
3.)Mine makes a GROANING noise immediately after I start from my car being parked for awhile, but I read in the owners manual this could be the brakes adjusting or the ABS test or something like that. I bet it's just the brakes haven't fully retracted. Not for sure though, I've just been keeping an eye on my rotors to see if they are prematurely wearing. So far, so good.
4.)Same here.
5.)Taken a few HARD hits and none yet. KNOCK!KNOCK!

No, but I would definately have them check that out!!!

The headlight is supposed to be that way on the right side...don't mess with!! The idea is to light up the side of the road to see people, animals etc. It's fine.

As far as the winshield...yeah the quality of the glass is quite poor....I had lots of pits just a few weeks after owning it. Either I don't get them anymore or I stopped caring....which might be the case as this car really does nothing for me anymore...sort of

I've got like 3 or 4 very noticeable chips on my windshield and haven't had the car for a full year yet... other than that... I haven't experienced the problems you have.

right side headlight

it is my opinion that the rite side is aimed higher so you can illuminate the high signs on the side of the road which are usually on the right ( nex time you drive notice how the signs light up, especially if you have super whites) and is the right side because most signs are on the right side of the road and so it doesn't blind and shine into oncoming traffic, because they see your left headlight. hope that helps .
