What springs are you running on your Max??
Alright, I think I want to go with H&R springs and illuminas because I think i am going to buy the g35 18's. I was just talking to my dad (he's a mechanic) and he was telling me that the ride will be harsh and bouncy with the new rims and the lowering. I read houecors reviews and he said the H&R's are a good ride and everything. I was just wondering if I just buy the 18's will they look stupid without a drop? I really want the smoothness of the stock ride but a little lower so the new rims don't make the car look raised. So i am basically just wondering, will the new rims look fine on the stock suspension and does anyone have pics of it?

And getting 18s with no drop will increase the wheel gap.... so IMO it will not "look fine".
Eibach Springs for almost 50000 miles now, car itself has 97000. KYB AGX's busted after 47000 on the eibachs - specifically the right front strut flat out broke at the top bolt. Now I have installed Koni Yellows (fully adjustable)...mmm what a dream (the tires help a bit too).
I purchased the Illuminas now I am trying to find the right spring to go with it but after reading all this, I am still undecided which one I want, leaning towards the H&R but I want to see how bad is the sagging so if anyone besides housecor that have a pic of current set up with the H&R PLEAAASE post cause I havent seen that many maxima drop..... another quuestion my friend told just go with the KONI coilover if I am worrying about the sag anyone can tell me anything about the Koni coilovers????
sorry if this question may seem repetitve but I'm VERY tight on money and am trying to find the best deal for the illuminas (if i cant i have to go with the KYB GR2's).
Ebay has them fpr $440 shipped. Have you guys seen it for less somewhere else?
thanks

Progress Springs looking for struts now.
I've had my Progress springs on for about 3 months now. Very happy; however, my stock struts are giving me a "floating" feeling on big bumps. Looking to replace my stock struts, I am thinking Tokico HP's would be enough (upgrade over stock) but save me some cash, but it seems that folks who have adjustables love them.
Which would you all suggest for "non"-adjustable struts that are on the firm side (performance over comfort for me).

Are all of these springs listed good for the 5.5 (02-03) gens as well as the 5th(00-01) gens?
Just asking because it seems that most people have these installed on the 5th gen and just wanted to make sure its the same setup on the 5.5.
---------
Never mind.
I just read housecor's awesome site.

As for H&R or Progress, it depends on what you're going for and what your constraints are. If you want stock-like ride quality with improved handling and a subtle drop then H&Rs will suffice. With H&Rs, you will most likely also be able to use non-adjustables like HPs or GR-2s if money is an issue. The Progress springs will give you a significantly harsher ride, arguably less body roll, and a lower drop, but I'd recommend getting some adjustable struts like Illuminas or AGXs so you can match the damping of the struts to the springs.

Thanks for your post puppet.
I'm contemplating the Progress with Illumina's, but am just a little worried because of the massive amount of miles I drive (>150/day). I am willing to put up with a reasonably rougher ride, just not a bone jarring one that will quickly become annoying. The progress springs will probably work fine for me right?
On the other hand, I do want better handling and a noticible looking drop from the outside. And also i don't want to really have to worry about reliability.
I heard a couple issues of blowouts while using progress springs, but it really doesn't seem to be a widespread issue. Correct?
Also, will a fstb and a rstb help a great deal in conjunction with this suspension setup?
Thanks

People typically get a FSTB and RSB (rear anti-sway bar) because those are really all ya need. The RSTB will help a little, but effects are marginal and you have to make holes in the trunk lining to make it fit I believe.
Here is a thread I started about my opinions on having a FSTB and RSB on a car with upgraded springs and struts:
http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=412478
Apparently, some have claimed a slight deterioration in ride quality with a FSTB and RSB because of the way they tighten up the suspension, but I think that the difference is minimal. Then again, I may just have higher tolerance for a harsher ride.
Btw, the Progress drop does look good

Wow,
Thanks again for the good information. Nothing helps as much as first hand experience.
Your car really does look nice with the setup.
How bad is scrapping with the front bumper. I don't mind taking dips out of parking lots and such sideways, but is this so low that I will probably scrape even then?
Thanks again,
Brandon

I've scraped it a couple times, but its not that low... if you don't have a lip, ya shouldn't have much to worry about. Unless curbs are really high where you live.
Illuminas they are!

I've heard that KYB GR-2s (also non-adjustable) are stiffer, or at least have equal compression and rebound damping, which helps eliminate some of that bounciness, but it may not be all that smooth. I have Illuminas now and the difference is night and day from when I had HPs. I have em set at 3F 3R which I think still isn't enough, but that's because I wanted to maintain some ride comfort. The bounciness over large bumps has definitely gone down with the settings at 3 and it is much better with 4F 4R, but I got sick of the harsh ride.
Thanks for the imput bro. I decided to spend a little extra to get adjustables. Had an order in for AGX's, but when I found out that they had to be modified to fit a 2001, I had my order changes to Illuminas. They should get here next week. So my set-up will be Progress and Illuminas. Looking forward to the improved ride. Thanks again bro, the input was helpful for a fellow progress spring owner...
Stuck on stock
Now that I sold my Illuiminas (and waiting to sell my H-techs), I don't mind the stock ride as much as I first did.
I figure that, some time in the future when I can afford to make the change, I'll reorder the Illuminas.

My car has almost 100,000 miles on it now, are my shocks still good? I bought the vehicle at 92,000 miles so i dont really know how the the suspension felt when it was new. Should i go ahead and get a nice set of shocks or should i get something else with my money and get that later on? Oh and im about 2 get some new rims and tires should i get the rims tires, and shocks all at the same time or separately? All opinions are welcome
Thx

Illuminas shorter?
I just had my Illuminas installed. I already had the Progress springs. The illuminas lowered my ride an additional 1/2"! (I didn't expect the further drop so I didn't pay close attention so 1/2 inch approx.) I am curious, has anyone else experienced this additional drop with a strut change? I am not complaining at all because I am very happy with the set-up and actually welcome the look of the extra drop. I just never heard of additional lowering with struts alone (which is why i didn't get a chance to line up stock-new struts to see any size difference). Thanks!
