shock options

I have an 02 SE 6 spd and I'd like adjustable shocks--I use the car for daily driving and autocross. KYB says they don't make an AGX for 02 and Koni Sports don't look like an option due to the nearly impossible to reach top of the rear shock tower. Any ideas?

KYB does makes a 4th gen AGX shock but you have to use the 4th gen top mount to get them to work. If you are looking for a serious setup I pulled my JIC FLT-A2's off the car a few weeks ago. Up for sale if you want them. The price is roughly the same

KYB's - ~$350
top mounts ~$150
springs ~$250
camber plates ~$400

Or take mine which are a full coilover setup for $1100 shipped.

Thanks and I'd love your coilovers but that would bump me out of stock class in autocross. I have enough trouble keeping up with the Celicas now. Sounds like the AGXs with the 4th gen top mounts is the way to go. Are these mounts also needed with Tokico Illuminatis?

What'd you replace your JIC setup with?

Replaced with factory setup. Kept the sways and strut braces on though. I've heard that some people grind down the top mount that's on there now but I'm unsure. Cattmann.com sells the pre-modified AGX's.

No modification needed with the Illuminas. I've got them on my 01 SE. Look a little further down the board. There has been a lot of discussion the past few days about the Illuminas.

How easy are the Illuminas to adjust? That's what I like about the AGXs--easy to adjust.

You adjust the Illuminas right on the top of the strut. very simple.

Is that the same for the rear struts? Looks like it would be almost impossible to adjust from the top, given the metal crossmembers at the top corners of the trunk. AGXs have dials on the outside so you don't even have to pop the hood or use a screwdriver.

The AGXs have dials on the rear set. The front you have to pop the hood and adjust. I have them on my AE with teins and love them. I had to drill the hole one size bigger on the stock strut mounts, but it wasnt a big deal. I didnt want to pay $45 a piece for the 4th gen mounts.

No, the metal crossmeber isnt a problem. The illuminas are verry simple to adjust. Takes about a minute or two. There are pics of my drop with illuminas and eibachs in this thread. https://maxima.org/forums/off-topic/280224-0-interest-balance-transfers-life.html And there are pics of the adjuster screws in front and back on the second page. I use a flathead screwdriver bit with tape wraped around it to change the settings.

Doesn't look too difficult, not as bad as I had feared. Now I just need to find a good deal on either. Thanks!

Just remember, if you use 4th gen AGX's and modify them, you will need to use 4th gen springs!
