plush ride question

I see many posts to lower the Maxima ride and improve handling but at the cost of ride quality. Anyone try to improve the ride quality over stock with new shocks/springs? Is that even possible?

Well, if you own an SE, swapping to GLE specific OEM components would improve the ride. Also, smaller tires with taller sidewalls. However, if you have an SE and want to improve the ride quality, I'd have to say you bought the wrong car!

I've never seen any upgraded suspension for more comfort reasons...Maybe bags would be more comfortable?

The OEM's GXE/GLE springs are fine for plush ride but I think you should change the stock struts to a good aftermarket one, the ride will improved. Also, install the 1st stage subframe connector to the car and I can guarantee you that you that the ride quality will be very tight and controlled w/out harsh impact from the road's imperfection.

Thanks

I'll be looking to swap out the suspensions for my summer project. The SE was a payment take over from my brother and couldn't pass on the price. I love my Maxima. I'm gonna have it until she decides to die on me. Already have 82k miles and runs like it did new. Thanks to all who replied.

Most posts here are right on because most 'older' (as is ours, design dates back to 1995) Japanese suspensions are over-sprung and under-damped, so:
- swap the SE springs for GLE or I30/I35 springs (which softens the spring rate)
- Install KYB GR-2 struts (which increases the damping)
- Swap your 17" wheels with 50-series tires for 16" wheels and a good, soft, touring 55-series tire like the Turanza LS-V or the Pirelli P-Zero Nero

You'll be amazed. Now, that said, between all of this u are looking at many clams....is the car in a condition -miles, etc- to make it worth it?

Can you direct where to find the subframe connector(s) you mention??
Thanks

I can attest to the value of 55 series tires. Had mine for a long time now and would not do any different as for replacements. Unless you drive like a maniac around corners, etc. there should be no notable loss in handling sharpness.

Warpspeed Performance (http://www.warpspeedperformance.com) sells SFCs, in Stage 1, Stage 1+2 and Stage 3 designs.
You must have a reputable shop weld these on, and keep in mind the car has to be lifted with its suspension under load (i.e. they must lift it by the suspension, whether it involves driving the car onto a ramp and lift or lift it by the rear axlebeam/front transverse links)

I'm thinking that with 82K you might be bringing up the whole issue
because your struts are tired.

You can buy the KYB GR2 set for about $280. Why not start with that?

Finding a set of replacement stock struts on the org is really easy - and would likely save you some cash and offer you a softer ride.

I've got a set of stock Nissan OEM shocks/struts for sale. Less than 15,000 miles on them.

I now run KYB GR-2's which are stiffer, just like any other aftermarket option of shocks/springs for our cars...

PM or E-Mail me if you're interested

Throw a set of Tokico Blues or Illuminas on your stock springs and your ride quality will improve. The Illuminas are adjustable and can be set softer then stock for a very soft, comfy, caddy like ride on the stock springs.

KYB GR2's will make the ride firm, not plush.
