Wild ride with an ML350 (141mph)......for the 3rd time (server busy!!!!)

A couple of weeks ago I was heading upstate to Putnam Valley where my brother in law lives to pick up one of my kids that slept over the night before.
Now, I always enjoy this 1 hour or so drive because the Bronx River Parkway and especially the Taconic State Pkwy are wide both wide and open with good long distance visibility down the road (good for when you dont have a radar detector), but that day was exceptionally enjoyable.

I was about 40 minutes into the drive and on the Taconic doing a lazy 80mph in the passing lane & coming up to traffic; the roads were lightly traveled that day since it was a weekday. I look in the rearview and see this car closing really fast on me and the traffic in front of me.

Now I'm thinking if I'm doing 80mph and this guy is flying up my tailpipe he must have been doing 100+. He sees an opening on the right lane and flies by and i see it is a Mercedes 2004 ML350 suv. So, since I was in no particular rush (at least for a brief moment), I started to mull over whether I wanted to join his high speed escapade as I was watching this guy accelerate past us.
Well.....it took me about 30 seconds to decide and I was off. This guy was almost a spec when I started to get up to 100mph. I had my foot planted and was SLOWLY catching up to him at 110; this guy was moving. The Valentine 1 was quiet and the road so far fairly empty.

At 125 he is now about 2.5 New York city blocks (about 450-500 feet) away and we are coming up to a left hand sweeper. The maxima feels very stable at this speed and as I see him enter the sweeper I see his suv leaning hard to the right and I see him slow down a little; he must have felt a little unsure of how it was leaning at that speed. I have to be honest, I saw this tight sweeper and as I entered it at 125 I also let off for about 2 seconds but felt the car was still secure and put my foot into it again.

The distance between us was now 1 city block and we were coming up to traffic doing about 130; this has so far been going on for about 10 minutes with no police in sight. We both hauled it down to about 100 and I happen to see an opening in the right hand lane, he sees that I saw it first and was alert enough not to cut me off and I pass him with the gas pedal floored. The road is open and we both have our feet planted. I look briefly in the rearview and see HE is now about 1 city block behind me but staying with me. I am now thinking this is the longest high speed run at 125+ that I have had and we are still accelerating.
I felt that the car was still stable but it somehow felt that I was now going fast. It didn't feel that way between 125 and 130 so I look down at the speedo and see a first, for me anyway..... 141mph on the clock with a very slight downgrade. At this speed the car felt like it was going fast, there was a definite sensation that you were going fast, but still felt secure. The ML350 was now a little further away but still staying with me. We ended up catching up to traffic when the highway turned from 4 lanes into 2.

I brought it down to 65-70 and left him space to pull up next to me. As he passed he shook his fist in excitement and mouthed "yeah...way to go" at me. I then noticed that this guy had his girl or wife with him and was doing those speeds. My wife would have started to scream at 100mph. He passed me and floored and started flying all over again. I was coming to my exit and flashed my lights to say good bye to the guy.......the most exciting and fastest high speed run I have ever enjoyed.

Stories like this make me not want to put my daughter in a car and drive on a highway.

Then again, I'm living in a glass house so I shouldn't throw stones.

Still, that's scary that someone in a top heavy ML would do that.

So I'm not the only one who can't resist hunting down anyone who flies by me? There's just something special about a quick 2 gear dropdown and a rush through traffic that always puts a smile on my face.

It's fun doing stuff like that. Sometimes those are the most fun races to get into. I do that stuff if anybody is driving faster than me. I have a crazy leadfoot. I don't think I go slower than 85 if at all possible to and from work.
