ABS is it working??

i have 00 max.
I just realized that my ABS is not working the way it should...
when i'm driving 40-60 and i hit the brakes all 4 wheels are stopped and tires are screeching. i don't hear/feel ABS working...
is there any way to test it? ABS light is off. it comes on for a second when i start the car. (normal?)

If thats the way your testing you anti-lock brakes, then you'd better take it to somebody who's got some knowledge about how the system works and let them test it for you.

You shouldn't be able to lock up the wheels at more than about 10 Mph. Something is wrong.
Take to somebody and let them check it out.

Peter, I'm not thinking that testing your ABS between 40-60 mph is such a good thing. One of the easiest and more safe ways would be to find a wet or slippery road and try them out at a lower rate of speed. I've done a few ride and drives (former car sales consultant) and you can do a simple test at as slow at 10-15 mph. Just get up to speed and once your reach the wet/slippery area, apply an ample amount of pressure to the brakes to activate your ABS. Hope its not anything more serious than that.

Come and move to the Northeast and you can check them everyday!

Seriously, I have never felt the abs activate on dry roads, even with hard braking. The best way to test them is on the snow/ice going 10 mph and hitting the brakes. Even in the rain it is not that easy to set the abs off. And when they do go off the abs light does not come on , you just feel it in the brake pedal and hear a grinding noise.

So i guess my ABS is F*** U* ;-(
i'm in CT, and right now there's ice everywhere.... ABS is not working...
on an icy road i hit brakes, and nothing happens...
Wheels lock up, and i'm sliiiiiiiding ;-)
I thought ABS light will be lit if there's a problem with ABS,,, ;(

Any way to reset ABS or sth...? I don't want to take it to a dealer...

ABS won't allow you stop on pure ice, it will just help you stay in control.

But the brakes shouldn't lock, and ABS is very noticeable when it is working - you can feel pulsation through the brake pedal and hear it as well.

No grinding noise, no pulsation...
And it used to work in the summer... (when i don't need it that much)

i'm afraid to take it for a service, because they'll charge me $80 and say that everything is ok ;-)

yeah, you can definitely feel it, and hear it, almost like a clunking sound. Couple weeks back i was driving on a cold night going over a bridge and i apply the brakes and i'm not slowing down....i'm staying straight, steering wheel feels lose brakes are making a weird noise because they were fully applied, didn't know wth was goin on until i considered ice, abs definitely kept me straight but can't slow you down too well on ice, but you should definitely feel it and hear it when its activated so pay attention to that.

damn, no warranty either? pretty sure it covers abs and whenever i have a problem or think there is a problem i have them check it when i get an oil change so you're going there for service no matter what and i've had them look at my brakes no charge, simply set up an appointment for a oil change and tell them you got a problem and would simply like it looked at, don't know if thats just how my service is but besides the dealers the head guys that work on the nissans i like

Take your car to a stealership, and see if one of the service writers can take your car for a spin. Tell them that you are a first time ABS owner and have questions about it. Usually they will be glad to do this.
