whistling noise
whistling noise
this morning when i started my car, the engine made this whiny whistling noise, is that normal when it gets cold? i just bought my car, it only has 12k miles on it. i hope its not a big problem.
is it a whistle or a continous squeak? I get a continous squeak on a cold startup and it comes from the belt area. People on this forums tell me that the belt is loose or might require some dressing..havent had the time to take it to the dealer.

When I had an Oldsmobile, a while ago, had such a whistling noise - next thing I knew was I lost all my coolant: water pump went out. Check out your coolant level.
(when a water pump goes out, it starts squirting coolant out through a special hole, and yes, it is in the belt area)

yes but when the water pump goes..you'll know as you'll hear it at cruising speeds and at acceleration. I doubt it's that..it can either by the OEM intake ( since it's cold outside and cold air is less dense) or its the belts.

But you're right, it might be the throttle body whistle, or the pulleys.
mine is all stock, but it doesnt do it all the time, jsut once in a while, when it gets really cold, dont know what the problem is, i was just wondering if that was normal for other maximas
If you only hear at startup, then it is probably the starter
check out this link - it makes a lot of sense because the grease probably does not last forever.
