Insurance higher than supercharged Pontiac!!!
#1
Purchased this Maxima yesterday. Happy with it, of course, but disappointed that the insurance rate is higher than I expected. My six month premium on the Alero GLS I traded in was $284 a month. The MaxSE will run me $340.
Surprisingly, the Bonneville SSEI(supercharged V6) and SLE models that I almost purchased were $260 and $250 respectively.
My 13-sec Mustang is only $15 higher than the MaxSE!
What give? Is it the 2 letters "S" and "E"???

I did better than expected
I had a 95 ford probe gt and was paying 530 every 6 months.
Got the 01 SE Max and it was only 550 every six months. I have 2 speeds on my record and that is it. I also have 100/300 coverage. So I guess its all relative. Also like mustangs, who usually purchases them and who wrecks them. Bonnevilles tend to be owned by "more mature" individuals and have less accidents. When I was looking for a Mustang, insurance was in excess of 1000 per six months. I looked at the same year cobra(98) and it was only 867 per 6 months. The cobra has way more power, but its also more expensive to purchase so the "average" person does not tend to buy and wreck....go figure...?

It's higher because it's a japanese car. The parts cost more. Build quality is better too. Plus the maxima gets a performance surcharge because it's lighter and you can get a stick. There are certain exceptions, like dodge neons for example, but there are more grandprix's out there than maxima's so the cost to insure is lower. More cars means more demand for parts, which means more competition, and lower prices
