for those with 2k2 cleared out HIDs....

About 2 weeks ago I cleared my HIDs with Pearl96Max (Don) (and for those who don't know him-you NEED to-for high end audio stuff). The task was definitely arduous but it got done and I was happy.

(look at sig for main pic) but here is a close up shot:

anyway, heres my issue:

after about a week-weather finally got warm enough so the water doesnt freeze after it immediately hits the ground and i washed her. About 40 min after i washed and dried her, i took her out for a spin to get those pix and I noticed that my driver side headlight got condensation

so i figured-**** the seal wasn't good but then why didnt it fog after i washed or dried it? it went away in my garage that night...

and then to make matters more confusing tonite we had a torrential rain storm in queens. And my car was out in it the whole time-but no condensation

so im stumped

anyone with some ideas??

Yea, i'm in the same boat! I put them in...cleared them out and my driver's side fogs up alot and i even get big water droplets on the side. My only thought is that with cooler temperatures and since the DDE's run so warm it condenses more.

Do we have to put them back in the oven? Put some silicone around the seal?

Looks awsome first off. As for condensation, when you put them back together and sealed them, the air inside probly isnt as dry as the air was wherever they were initially assembled. So that new moisture cant go anywhere, it just will build up when the temps are right.

Other question is do either of you have the write-up on how to do the whole thing? I'd love to as the look is great. Lemme know if you got any write-up tips/links

NT2SHBBY - Great work - looks fantastic. I ordered my frosted lens today. Can't wait because my DDE's are sitting on the bench until they arrive.

I'd recommend you open the back of your hids and remove the bulbs. This will let the moisture in there evaporate. Perhaps removing them from the car and sitting them by a dehumidifier with the bulbs removed would help.

Also, not to hijack your thread - please post on the poll I just posted regarding this issue. I'm trying to get a feel for how many are experiencing this issue and how they've resolved it. http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=283500

Not to jack your thread, nor push interest towards mine, but here's my input on this:

To open the housings, follow post #1 in the link at the bottom of this post.

To re-seal the housings, follow post #38 in the same thread.

As for a full write-up, you can follow that thread as well. It's not a full write-up, but definitely a day-by-day commentary on the whole process of painting the lights, clearing the turn signals, and installing the DDE Angel Eyes.

Condensation occurs when water vapor comes in contact with a cool surface, which absorbs some of the gas's energy and allows it to convert back to a liquid. In this case, the heat of the headlight warms the water until it is a gas, but the cold outside air temperature cools the lens cover. When the moisture hits the cool cover, it condenses to water. You wouldn't expect condensation when the car is sitting overnight simply b/c the water inside the housing is the same temperature as it is outside and that is cold. As such, there is no cooler surface for the moisture to condense on.

Yes, but the outside air temperature and the temperature inside the housing were the same since there was no external (i.e. lights) source of heat. Equilibrium had been reached. That is the crux of the matter.

Condensation issues? Take out your bulbs and blow some canned air into the housings. take out two bulbs and run a hairdryer through one of the holes allowing it to exit the other hole. I had a tiny spec of dust in mine after I sealed them back up and put them back in the car. I'm just going to blow some canned air right on that little speck of dust. Good luck to everyone who was brave enough to pull those expensive things apart.
