You're driving a fully loaded GLE or SE and pull up next to a bone stock GXE or vice versa? Do you compare?
Don't you feel lucky that you spent the extra money for the higher model or do you regret gettng the lower model?

i don't regret getting a gxe at all. it gives me the flexibility to mod the car as i see fit and not worry about replacing something that i had to pay extra for in the first place.

i will admit though, side view mirror heaters would have been nice!

Well I really prefer the SE so anything else I kinna look down on. Also.. if it has the GXE rims or no spoiler.. yuck. Sorry if I offend anyone.. not trying to be a butthead.

actually
i would take a stock max over a fully loaded se right now
#1 its lighter.
#2 if its 5 speed i'll take it
#3 no matter what at the end if the gxe has better mods then the loaded se or gle it doesn't matter

Man, whenever I see a loaded SEs

I feel so INFERIOR!!!!!

We have to admit that base GXEs with no rims and spoiler don't look very pretty.

Until I added rims and spoilers and factoy foglights to my stripped GXE, I felt so bad whenever I saw a Maxima with leather and sunroof, but now, looks wise, my GXE looks just like a SE!! So I don't feel so bad anymore. And the 20% tint looks really good on White too.

but guess what,

Mine is a 5 speed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
so I don't feel so bad.

When I see a loaded SE, I always peep inside to see if it's a 5-speed, and 99% of the time, it's an auto.

But when I see a 5-speed with leather and sunroof, Man, I really wish I had one of those.

Nope

My GXE has virtually every option available (except Meridian) and I later added the spoiler and factory fogs. Most people think it is the 'top of the line' car ...and have no clue. The only thing I would change are the GXE alloys. Compared to my car there are some SE's that don't even have C&C package or a sunroof. The SE is really the same with a stiffer front suspension and tinted taillights.

Nope

I don't regret it. with the money that I saved when I purchased a GXE I have been able to get EVERYTHING you see in my sig. I got the leather, a recara, 18" 3pc rims, Piaa fogs, a killer sound system, kit, bars... you name it. I got it.

Mine is {B]Louder, Lower, Faster, and Kicks ***!!!!!

my friend has a diamante and his didnt come with side mirrors but the harness was there... all he did was buy the heated mirrors and install them... cause they go on when the rear defroster goes on... you should check it out... u might have the harness already just there... all you have to do is plug it in... he did that with his fog lights too... is taht how the fog lights are on our cars too? its much easier...

I'm happy w/ my GXE. I like the spoiler, but to be honest I like the car better w/o it. I also don't like the tinted rear lights. Couldn't see spending $2-3,000 more for something I hated. Instead of having to spend my money on the first mod of changing those lights, I was able to get the wheels i wanted, fog lights, and dash kit. Seems like I came out on the better end. But like just about everyone with the auto's, I'd prefer a stick! If i had a five speed, i would be in heaven.

alot of if's and butt's in there though...

But if a bullfrog had wings, he wouldn't bump his butt all the time ... guess I should look back on those things but be happy w/ what I have.

Doesn't anyone

just feel happy that there are other Maxima's on the road? I have a 2k1 SE. When I see another Max on the road I simply look to see any kind of visual mods and I just say to myself, there goes another satisfied customer. I have only had my Max for a 5 days now and they have been the greatest. I understand what you are asking RBa, but I guess I haven't had my car long enough to feel that it is in any other way superior to another. It's just mine, plain and simple, I got pretty much what I wanted and nothing more. Okay, I think I have rambled far too long for this post. Just my 2 cents.

i like the gxe.....

well, its better (IMHO) than getting a used max, no matter the miles (unless its less than 100miles or something). thats what i was going to get, a loaded 4th gen, but than my father thought it would be better to get a new car (more reliable) so i got the gxe. i had the dealer put on factory tints and the spoiler, and its black, so it looked really "slick" (looks ugly now that its dirty), but as soon as i get some cash, those rims or going, i really cant stand those 16" 9-spokes, but the rest of the car is nice, i like it. no regrets.

Dealer options

I purchased my 2k GXE last November with leather, sunroof, 16in Rims, Carbon Fiber dash kit, goldbadging & spoiler in superblack. All of these were dealer installed. The car was a year old with ultra low miles. And still cheaper than the 2k1.

Ok guys, I know I'm in the wrong forum here (97 SE 5spd), but I can completely feel you on this. SE is the only way to go, I dont care what anyone says. If someone has a GXE or GLE with 10,000 bucks worth of mods, it still isn't as phat as an SE. You know why? Because it isn't an SE! I personally wouldn't drive any other Maxima than an SE 5 spd, ever! No offense to anyone, that's just my opinion.

Can you tell me what the "PHAT" part of your SE is that a GXE can't have?

are you that stuck on badging? besides the interior differences, which most people alter anyway, are the tail-lights and stiffer springs. guess what, most people change the springs too. now you have just paid and extra 2-3k for tailights, se badge, and white gauges plus the cost of changing the interior. the dealers love customers like you.

I've heard on the 2k the difference between SE and GLE/GXE is not the springs... but polyurethane bushings and possible other structural supports. Like you said.. the taillights... you can change.. the gauges are nice but nothing special. Better wheels. You get a better stereo.. etc. There really is nothing that much better... just less things you have to mod.

everyone always talks about a 2-3k difference to mod with.. but the fact is most of us finance so we don't see that difference as immeadiate cash in hand. So if you go with an SE from the start you can have better suspension, black tails, a spoiler.. etc.

It all comes down to a personal judgement call. I have no idea why I bothered to write this much on this subject.

I got a 2K GXE - it was used.

I'm really planning on adding factory fog lights (the plastic covers look uber-cheezy), 16" rims (the 15's with hubcaps will do until I have $$$), and will give the OSCAI & K&N panel filter a shot.

Mine came with a factory spoiler installed (which I love)...at first, I thought it was an SE because of that.

Things I'm glad I didn't get: darkened tail lights, adjustable armrest, heated and/or leather seats, double-din stereo.

Things that would be nice: sunroof, heated mirrors, 5-spd (if i knew how to drive one ), 10HP "SE" badge

Now there is something I wish I had in my se... the gxe stereo... easier to replace!

Maxx-s-ter, tell me honestly that you wouldn't think your car was better if it actually was an SE?? I mean I'm sure you can pimp a GXE out to the extreme, but I'm sorry, it simply IS NOT an SE!
SE= Sports Edition
GXE= BASE MODEL

Oh and Adam01GXE, I'm not stuck on badging, I'm stuck on knowing the fact that my car is top of the line, not rental fleet. And the dealers may love that I drop 2-3K more for a loaded Maxima, but it's worth it knowing I'm driving the phattest stock Maxima I can get, not a bread and butter version. Thanks!

C'mon people, I know there are people with SE's that feel me!!!!!!!!

One other thing.
we are all on this board for one reason.
Maximas.
Doesn't matter what kind you got.
Or how much you paid.
So stop bashing on other maximas

Besides you know who's maxima is the best

im not here to knock anyones ride... gxe's, gle's, SE's are all hottt
they are MaXs
You see just SE comes with a few things that GXE or GLE doesnt... most are all cosmetic that everyone changes anyone... i mean i got the 17" rims but they too skinny... if i would've gotten the GXE i would'vr either put 17x8 or 18x8 now i dont wanna change cause i already have and i dont feel like paying twice... the suspension is the same... i wanna put springs now but it defeats the whole purpose of the SE suspension... I like the gauges... but if the indiglos come out then there go my gauges... the spoiler u can buy for like $90 on ebay... so basically if u planning on modding and customizing the best way is to buy the GXE... even if u dont have leather u can order custom leather for cheaper than the dealer offers it for... some nice two-tone job atleast... So there are reasons people buy each edition... There is nothing wrong or right with any of the types of MaXs but stock for stock i would rather take the SE especially cause the GXE got a governer of like 120mph or something when the SE has 143mph

Ditto. Everyone has their own reasons for buying what they did: price, features, convienence, etc. I bought mine because I felt it was the most comfortable (heated seats, moonroof, leather, Bose), best performing (5spd, limited-slip, better exhaust) STOCK Maxima available at the time.

what the hell....

i never thought i would see this on this board, max owners bashing other max's, what gives? to me, just the feeling of owning a max is a good feeling, whether its a GLE, SE, or GXE. i know that this thread wasn't started to bash the GXE, but thats what its turned into. come on guys, there are lots of cars out there to bash, the max is just not one of them, mainly cause this is maxima.org!

Luv the SE

First, I have to say I test drove the GLE and didn't like the way they handled, nor did I like the way the tail lights looked either. Somehting about the smoked tail lights I liked better. My only regret (sometimes) is not getting the standard. Living in Houston is a real ***** - long stretches of highway, but heavy traffic.

Overall I don't think people were bashing. The GXE is the base model, of course there are things about SEs and GLEs that are going to be better. But.. the GXE required less initial investment and if you're gonna mod leaves more cash for that... a lot of people like them for that reason. If I were going to have my purchased to do over again I would've gotten a stick GXE with factory spolier... I woulda been a lot happier with that then with my auto se. When it comes down to it, we all have the same engine and that's why we all love the max

Actually, the SE has the black grill, fog lights that are stock instead of those ugly GXE covers or whatever they are in the place of the fogs, and black door trim that looks twice as good as the crome stuff you guys have. Not to mention the only has a SE 20th AE, not a GXE 20th AE.

governor - great point

First off I think all Max's are great. We all have the same engine, it's not like the GXE gets a 4cyl like other cars out there. I must admit that sometimes I look down on other Max's especially since I chose the AE. I would have gone for the SE anyways. I want to do mods, but I don't know how much or when. I'd rather drive the better car for the time being, and if I were driving a GXE and hit the governor, I'd be cursing my f**king @$$ off. AGAIN, all Max's are great!

To each is own!
