2003 Brake Judder question

This is a TSB question. I have an 03 Max SE with brake judder when decelerating rapidly from about 70 mph. The car has only 15,000 miles on it so this shouldn't be happening. The TSB I found for brake judder that covers the car under the 3year/36,000 mile warranty only applies to the 2000 Maxima. The dealer would not even look at it without charging me since the TSB clearly says '2000 Maxima Brake Judder' at the top.

My questions are:

1)Is there a TSB for the 03 Maxima that covers brake judder under 3year/36,000 warranty?

2)Does the 03 Maxima use a different rotor brand or size than the 2000 Max or are they the same?

Thanks

The front rotors on the 2K2's are different than the 2K's

Take your car to your Nissan dealer....I'm sure they'll cover it since you're under the 36/36 warranty.

Actually, the dealer flat out refused to cover it which is why I'm asking. And when I suggested that the car would be covered by the 3year/36,000 mile warranty, the service writer immediately said that it was most likely my driving habits that caused it so it probably wouldn't be covered under warranty even if the warrant could apply!

I have that particular TSB downloaded and it is referenced to 'All Nissans'. The thing that is missing from it is that the diagnosis and repair be covered under 3year/36,000 warranty. The '2000 Maxima brake judder TSB' does specify that it be covered where as the more recent one doesn't. If I'm getting all this **** from the dealer already, does that mean I have to find another dealer or do I have to get Nissan North America on them to fix the problem under warranty?

Yeah, I'd try another dealership. I had my rotors turned at Nissan referencing the TSB issue and they took care of it no questions asked.

Can someone please post a link to the TSB that covers the 2002-2003 model years. I would like to see it before I go in to crucify another Nissan Dealer's pathetic service staff. Do they specifically go out of there way to hire compete morons? If not they sure are lucky devils. They must have nearly all of them.

When I took our 2003 SE in for the Brake Judder they informed me the brakes were worn out and the rotors were warped. I asked them how they knew this and they replied that the service manager drove it. I said, oh really, and asked him what the rotor run-out was. He did not even know what I was talking about. Once I explained they brought the chief mechanic out and he explained that they don't measure run-out until they turn the rotors.

By the way the pads were less than half worn out and the run-out was 0.003mm which is half the spec limits. This is on a car with 26,000 miles to which the service manager exclaimed "that sure is a lot of miles on a car that new". It is over two years old.

Thanks in advance for someone posting the new TSB here.

Craig

Either check out www.alldata.com or you can try studman's webpage as well at http://maxima.theowensfamily.com/tsb/

Good luck.

you spoke too soon. The reason why the dealer charged me was cuz they showed me my rear pads and they were completely dust. I WANT MY FRONTS RESURFACED FOR FREE!

Well, so far I haven't seen a TSB that says this problem is covered under warranty where the 2003 is concerned. Sounds like the guys that got this done on models later than 2000 models had sympathetic and friendly dealers. It doesn't appear the dealers are required to do this for free even though rotors are supposed to not warp in 15,000. My last car had 120,000 miles on it and the original rotors which were fine.

That ain't gonna work. The engine could be dragging 10 feet behind the car and these morons will still act like nothing's wrong.

I had the same problem with my 2k Max and it was solved for good 3 years ago by replacing pads. Rotors were also replaced but they're stock, not aftermarket just new pair (3 years ago). I'm using Porterfields R4S and already put >50k miles on those rotors without need for resurfacing. They will be resurfaced this summer, probably as pads left narrow, <0.5 mm piece untouched at the edge of the rotors. I want to get rid of that but no judder whatsoever.
