Re: Stillen STS for 02-03, When?

Anyone know anthing about the time frame for the release of a short throw shifter for the 6spd maximas. the standard throw now is so long. i heard they are in the works. does anyone know specifically when Stillen will have one out and for how much.

it can be whenever or never. you never know with stillen. they say 2 weeks, but it can be 2 years.

It's a joke. The typical response from Stillen is usually 2 weeks or 30 days.

B&M had a STS scheduled for release last month, however they had a problem on the Altimas and Sentras with the linkage. This problem was severe enough to recall all the Altima and Sentra STS's. Because of this, new product R&D has been pushed back for a while. B&M has said that they will make one for us, but they have to fix the Atima and Sentra ones before they release ours.

Now having said that, we all know that Stillen won't actually pay for the R&D time and effort in our car, they are concentrating on the Z too much. Rather still, they'll buy the design off of someone else. Or even better, they'll have someone else make it for them, but put the Stillen name on it. So I have a feeling that you won't see it from Stillen for a while. Possibly until after B&M releases theirs.

Pacesetter is another player in the game, but we've yet to hear from them about any plans to produce one. They may follow the same trend as Stillen and wait for someone to figure out the R&D, then buy the final information for use in their own production. This one is still up in the air.

I wouldn't buy a Pacesetter if they designed one anyhow.

Just out of curiosity, do we really want a STS for the 5th Gen 6 speed? After reading right here on this forum about all the problems that this tranny has, it seems like it'll just get worse with a STS. It's my understanding that any STS will stress the synchros more than the standard shifter because it forces the speed of the gears to change at a faster rate. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong (maybe the problem is in the gears and the synchros are tougher than I'm giving them credit for). I fully agree that the throw is waaay too long, but I value longevity (read $$) over performance in my daily driver.

the tranny is fine, STS will make it better as the current shifter just plain sucks and the throws are too long
