Hi, i have read numorous things on this site and think it's very interesting and knowledgeable.....i'm going to go buy my Max SE AE fully loaded but i'm not sure what color to get. i need your advice as to what looks best. i have buttoned it down to two interior and two exterior colors. there are good and bad parts of each color and i just can't balance them out. the interior i'm thinking of is frost or black and the exterior is either gray lustre or stirlin mist. if you guys have any pictures, don't be shy to post them, thanx

Gray Lustre w/Black

It is a beautiful car. Sterling Mist looks good, but there are an awful lot of them on the road. The Gray Lustre is gorgeous. Stick with the black leather. That's my $.02.

paint chip

hay, thanx for the color tip but i'm reading a lot about this and one problem that seems to be occuring is the color chipping off on the nose of the max, it seems as if it's happening to a lot of ppl....i'm thinking of getting a nose mask for my car, but i think they don't look as nice and beside from that, do you have to take the mask out when u wash your car and drive it in the rain and snow? won't the moisture build up or something?

Paint chips can be a problem...

A lot of people, including myself, have experienced a poor paint job from Nissan. However, Gray Lustre does well with paint issues due to the base paint being a similar color. However, we're still looking into doing something about this problem.

I do not have a nosemask. Had a bra for my old Integra and, yes, you have to take it off when it rains out, etc. Moisture builds up and major paint discoloration will occur if you don't let the bra dry out off the car.

Color choice

I'm biased toward Merlot because it's rare and seems all that is on the road is sterling mist or gray lustre. I have recently wondered if I should have gotten the Majestic Blue; it is a nice color, and it is only applied to the AE this model year. That would be one way to have a truly unique car.

Regarding paint...yes, it's not the best and I had to opt for a hood cover. Note, there are currently not any full nose masks that will fit the AE. If you are interested in the full mask, please notify Saddleman (www.saddleman.com) about your interest in the full mask. If they get enough requests, they'll put one into production. By the way, they are the ones I purchased my cover from. It is way nicer than the Nissan product, plus you don't have to buy the whole kit just to get the hood cover.

At the end of the day, it is your preference. I was lucky I got a color that knocked my socks off AND is not on every street corner. I can't begin to cite all the compliments and looks this car draws...I love my Max!!!

I narrowed mine down to the darker gray (can't remember the color), and majestic blue. I got majestic blue with black leather. I have not seen another car with that color of blue. It's special to the '01 SE AE.

It's a darker blue (metallic), and looks killer in shadows and low light situations. the blue shows brighter when in the sun when the metallic shines. It's pretty hot.

The other colors are nice too...but much more common. I like colors with a bit of personality.

Good luck.

Sterling Mist

I like the way my car has an almost monochromatic look with the Sterling Mist paint and the smoked chrome wheels. However, the blue is rare and looks great too.

I would stay away from the black leather. I have lived with this before and the interior gets very hot in the summer, especially the seats!

Go for the black interior. My frost leather is hard to keep clean, also the floor mats stay dirty.

Merlot!

I bought my car three weeks ago during the President's Day sales. I didn't have many color choices in their inventory, but I lucked out with Merlot. It wasn't my first choice when I was looking at the cars on the lot, but now that I have it, it looks soooo sweet.

I do like the Gray Lustre. My brother has a 2K SE in that color. I however went with the Majestic Blue once I finally saw it in person. I almost bought the Pearl, very nice car. When I saw the Blue though I knew it was what I wanted. To this date I have had 3 dealers contact me about people wanting to see this car. They can't get it for them! That makes you feel good not to mention the comments and looks keep getting better and better. Interior is frost. I prefer lighter interiors. I went with Sage Mist and Sereno Gray on my 98 SE and that was a very rare combo in these parts, but again often admired.

Good luck on your color selection.
