5 speed problems
#1
I just joined your 5th gen club!! Woo Hoo
All of your comments helped me with my decision to get a 2KSE 5 speed Arctic Pearl with black leather! When I was doing my car shopping I didn't even want to look at a automatic. My father had a 5 speed in his 98 and I fell in love with the machine! I don't think I am going to make any improvements for now.....but I love to see what everyone does to their car to make it even faster!
The car is a blast to drive.....but I guess I am experiencing the same problems everyone else is. My problem is happening in all gears though. What I have noticed is that there is such a small area on the gas pedal between accelerating and compression braking. The car has so much power that once you get the car up to speed you really don't need to have the pedal depressed much to maintain that speed. Once the foot lifts off the pedal it feels like there is a gap before the compression braking kicks in....and when it does it is kind of noticable. The only way I have dealt with this is to go really fast....then there is no problem!
I am going to the dealer tomorrow to talk to the mechanic to see if there is anything he can do. He told me that he has not heard anything like this before.....and he also stated that there are not too many 5 speeds out there.
On another note...
Compared to my last car (98 200sx se) this car is a dream. I am glad that I got all of the bells and whistles....because in the long run hopefully I get most of my money back.....and when you are making that 500+ dollar payment...what the hell is another 50 dollars of month!
Update!!!
I went to the dealer today.....and he said just what I thought he was going to say. He told me that the reason the car feels that way is because it is using (honda term) grade logic. I noticed it before but did not think very much about it. He even told me that the automatics have the same feel when the gas pedal is lifted. I didn't go into depth with him....but I was comfortable with his answer.
