SES Codes

Is reading the code from the blinking SES light as accurate as having a dealer do it? I don"t have access to an Autozone since I live around the Niagara Falls Canada area.

Thanks, MCE

the blinking light does not work on 5th gens. on 4th gens, they have a led light that lights up on the ecu that you can read to pull a code but we do not have that. a cheaper alternative to going to the dealer would be to try a local garage or you could look into purchasing a obd2 reader which tend to pay for themselves rather quickly.

I had a similar question. I was looking at the FAQs and saw the tabbed thread about how to reset the 2002 ECU. Understand it-should be no problem. But how do I pul the code from the "Service Engine Soon" light. According to the directions here : http://maxima.theowensfamily.com/ecu.asp, Studman (thanks Studman!!!) says you can reset the ECU and after step 4 you can pull the codes. So if I find the code, where do I go to find out what the issue is? Do I need a decoder ring or something (OK bad joke). But 4th Gens had a link for reading ECU codes, do we have one I am mising? Thanks.

after you pull the code, any list you find will work. they are generic lists used by every car manufactuer that i know of. the code will start with P then have four numbers. if you search on google for diagnostic codes, you will find a ton of sites with the generic odb codes definitions.
