you need the pac switch to work the audio controls and you need to splice a brown wire with a white stripe on it from a leftover harness for the temp gauge, etc. i have yet to do this because im lazy and ive never installed the pac switch before.
Just like slickrick said above, tap the brown wire with a white stripe in the 3rd (little) connector that came out of the stock radio to ground. Your trip controls will work again.

Here is a related question. My 2K max se never had the steering wheel controls. How hard is it to add the steering wheel control along with the PAC unit to control an aftermarket H/U?
I would'nt mind doing it if it was relatively easy but if its a lot of work, forget I even asked.
