Paint Chip Solution for Deep Scratch
#1
I went to a car wash today that I don't normally
go to. While they were drying the car, I noticed
a deep as* scratch on the back bumper. I bugged
out on the owner and the workers and then came to
realize that the Saturn behind me had a broken
license plate frame. To make a long story short,
after having the cops there to try to resolve things,
I've come to notice that they won't do sh*t for me.
So the main reason for this thread is to see if anyone
out there has tried any of the gimmicks on the market
for deep scratches. We aren't talking two inches,
I'm saying 1/4 inch deep or a little less. I was
able to peel away some of the remaining fiber glass.
Bought this junk called Car Cure Turtle Wax with a
Chipstick........ was wondering if anyone has tried
the product and thinks it might work. It comes in the
color of the car, the stick and the wax. If some
people see this scratch they may think it's no big
deal, but to me it is. Any advice?
Thanks.

The best way to fix it is to have the bumper repainted. A scratch that deep will have to be filled before painting. Stay away from that "as seen on TV" crap. It doesn't work.

You must have been readin' my brain: I was gettin' ready to post that same URL.
I tried that approach (about touch up paint on that website), but the paint seem to want to "smear" when I started the "sanding" process. I got nervous and stopped. I figured my scratches, filled in with matching body color paint, was better than fresh scratches.
Note: Even though the touch-up paint was color-coded to my VIN, the color still looked slightly different than my car.
