Stripped Manual Transmission Drain Plug...HELP!!!

So I bought Redline MT-90 and couldn't wait to change the oil...been a while. I realized that the drain bolt was a bit rusty. It's hard to get to because of this metal beam that gets in the way. I couldn't use a socket wrench. As I started to loosen it, it stripped! I sprayd PB Buster and WD-40 but it wouldn't budge. The bolt stripped and now I feel lost.

How can I remove this stripped bolt? What should I do?

I haven't looked underneath my vehicle yet, since I have just bought it, but what type of bolt is this? is the head a hex head or a drain plug type where you put in a half inch drive ratchet and turn?

There are 2 bolts: a drain plug at the bottom of the tranny and the bigger fill bolt that uses a 1/2" socket to open.

The drain plug is a regular 12mm bolt that got stripped.

First: Go to the dealer and buy a replacement plug/gasket.

Second: Go to Home Depot/Sears/Lowe's and get a really good 12mm box wrench (for your lovely new plug), a pair of honest-to-god Vise-Grips (maybe the narrow jaw to fit) and a small, 1/4" square, agressive metal file.

Third: Go home, Get under, File two opposing sides of the bolt head flat, lock the hell out of the Vise-grips on the newly square bolt, and turn. Drain tranny oil into pan, place new plug in hole, and torque to ~14 Ft lb with your new 12mm wrench. Find another 12mm bolt to test your torque value on so you can get the feel when you do it without a torque wrench. Refill tranny.

Good Luck!

I've stripped mine twice already and everytime it's really rounded. First of all I removed the bracket that holds the shifter rod, then I used needle file to slowly file it back to shape. Then I used a 6 point socket to remove it. Sometimes I wonder if it's the bolt that's not manufactured to spec or my Craftsman wrench that's defect.

That drain plug bolt was soft like a butter. I don't think it's a good idea to spot weld it.

Go to your local sears and get a "bolt out" kit Every time ive had a bolt round off or be rusted on, this thing gets it right out. It digs into the bolt to help it out.
