Cruise Control stopped working!

I went to hit my cruise today and it wouldn't work. I turned it on, and then pressed "set" but nothing happened. The "set" light started blinking intermittantly as long as I had cruise activated, but it never kicked in.

Anybody had any experiences with this?

Also...I let a friend of mine borrow it yesterday who is pretty hard on cars. Any chance that hard driving could cause this?

Any idea of cost to fix?

First did you try shutting the car down and then starting back up and see if it worked again?

The cruise light on my 95 altima blinked from time to time but it would only be temporary. I could never find out the conditions that made it happen.

If you have recently added gas, or changed your brakes, it can effect the cruise control.

I've *never* seen the "SET" light blink intermittently...
My SET button is a bit hard to press though (gotta push it hard to make it register)
Maybe someday I'll take apart the steering column and take the switch apart to repair it... along with rewiring the fogs so they come on with the highbeams (if it's possible)

You'd never guess what the culprit was....

My brake lights weren't working because I'd changed the bulbs (old ones wore out) about three months ago. I guess the cheap aftermarket bulbs are kinda weak - and the metal contacts had worn down and weren't connecting. After just bending them back out I was back in business.

Since tapping the brakes disengages your cruise, a lack of brake lights will prevent it from ever being initiated.

You learn something every day.....
