2000 Transmission Concern

I seem to recall quite a while back seeing information on this board about a TSB for a transmission problem on the 2000 Maxima. I have an automatic tranny and when I accelerate from a stop, it seems to slip or not shift gears properly. Last service visit, I asked them to check it and they told me it was because I had the Automatic Overdrive on and that I should turn it off until I get on the highway.

I think that's total B.S. because when you start your car it's on by default (plus other cars I've driven don't require you to turn it off to accelerate). Anyone else ever have this problem? I'm hoping my tranny is not going on me!

Thanks

Thanks

that's totally bull.

print the TSB and in the TSB thread and bring it to them. Your tranny should be covered up to 60k.

quite a few people had the tranny problem. It was designed to have a luxury/smooth shift and turned out that they screwed up.

I just blew my 2k GLE cuz of my SC I believe.......I know for sure that I don't abuse my ride or anything that'll heart my tranny but it went out completely. First my tranny was slipping on 2nd to 3rd gear and than after I took my SCer out my reverse was gone so I dropped it off to dealer immediately for sevice and I just received a call from dealer saying I should be covered under Power Train warrenty 5yr/60k so I'm waiting for my dealer to get approval from Nissan.

Yep..earlier 2k's have a known problem with the valve body assembly. It it fails long enough you will have to rebuild your tranny. Mine went at 101k (I even bought the 100k warranty!), and Nissan would not cover it. Nissan should cover this if your dealer's service department isn't full of #$^#!@$heads like most!

If it happens again go to levelten.com, they make some nice kits (and whole trannys) that are more stout for domestics and imports. They even have a service where you just send them the valve body and they will recalibrate it for optimum shift points, etc.. for SC engines.

me too

My 2000 GLE is currently in the shop for that same problem. I have been given the run-around. They told me that my (sp?) selonids were cracked. When that didn't fix the problem, they told me that I needed a new computer. After they replaced that, and it still wasn't fixed, they are giving me a bunch of bull s#!t. They told me that they ordered another part (but couldn't tell me what part) and that it would take a week to get it, because it was backordered. Now they are telling me they are waiting on a "new" computer. I just think they don't want to spend the money to fix the real problem.

When I swithced over to Mobil 1 full synthetic my 2000 transmission @ 28K felt fine after that. This winter I switched back to OEM Nissan Matic-D and the slipping came back.

Try out the Mobil 1 and see what you think. It's cheaper than the Nissan Matic-D and changing tranny fliud is as easy as changing oil. Just drain and refill through the tranny dip stick hole. Make sure not to overfill.

Good luck.

Is this a sign of slipping. Say you take off from light and it revs up stalls and then revs some more.

I had the same problem with my 00 SE. It took me three months to get it fixed because the dealership kept telling me they couldn't get it to duplicate the problem. AFter the 3 months I went to another dealership and told them exactlly what my car was doing and they said yeah we have a tsb on that issue and they just ordered the parts withou even driving it. I think the total on the parts was like $1200. Problem fixed and that was at around 42,000. Now my car has 66,000 and I'm getting a delayed shift from second to third. It was time to change my tranny fluid so I drained the pan pulled the hoses going to the radiator and hooked compressed air to the side going to the torque converter. I ended up getting 9 quarts out of it. I'm not sure what it holds since they left that info out of the owners manual. Now shifting is a little better, but still aslight delay between 2nd and 3rd gear. I guess I'll have to change my tcm which is like $600. Does anyone have Dave B's number. If so let me know, maybe he can save me a little money
