Minor Issues

I just got my 00 max and it has 20k miles on it

I have noticed a strange loud when I turn on the car but it only lasts a few seconds any ideas?

Also when I am parked on a hill or driveway it is hard to put the car in reverse

I have the parking brake on before I turn the car off and put it in park and I have my foot on the brake pedal before I try to put it in reverse

any ideas?

oh yea there is this sound when i close the door like a rattle anyone have this or know where it is coming from?

THANK YOU

If it sounds like a grinding noise last about 2-3 seconds its your starter. I had the same problem on my 00 Maxima just got the starter replaced last week... I checked on here for a few answers and everyone had a different suggestion but thats what it was the starter. Funny thing is it would only happen after the car sat all day or all night and the temp would have to be below 35 then i would hear the noise

I have to leave it parked out side at night and when its really cold it does it..

Will the dealer check for this for free? Also, is it under warranty still?

If you have an extended warranty it will be fixed for free. Other than that you have to pay cause it's not covered under the powertrain or anything. Yes the dealer will charge you to look at.

It sounds like the strange noise your hearing upon start up is actually the timing chain. Don't worry about it though, it happens to most of us and it tightens itself. As for putting the car in reverse on a hill or sloped driveway it's normal to have alittle "resistance". It sounds like everything you have described is normal when it comes to the Maxima's

I thought it may have been the timing chain too and that would be covered under the powertrain warranty 60,000 miles but it turned out to be the starter

Actually if you look under the stickys in the how to there is a write up to fix the noise that your 2k is making at start up. Its the starter, it needs to be regreased. I did this to mine, because i had the EXACT same problem, infact while i was looking into this problem i even found a link to the difference in the timing chain and the starter noises, the guy said that its common with maximas. As far as the reverse problem, maybe its a linkage problem?, but i really wouldnt worry about that.

Let me ask you a question. Im not at all saying that your uncle is wrong, im just asking, i have heard of this on ALOT of 2k maximas, so does this mean that there is a starter problem with all 2k max's? Because if you have all these people having the same problem, then i doubt that they will all need new starters, and if you said you have the same problem as this guy does then therefore all our starters are bad and need replacement?

I have got two similar problems.

1. When I close the door, I hear a screeching sound from the engine bay.

2. When I turn my engine off, I hear a mechanized rattling sound from the engine bay for about 2-3 secs.

I think there are TSBs for it.
