well the thing is...the spark plugs were supposedly replaced with the last tune up. i got that 80k mile service from nissan, where they do all those tests and flush everything and check/replace everything...its like pretty expensive service. RIGHT AFTER that it started going crazy

try cleaning the TB first, it's your cheapest and easiest option (will cost you less than $10) - if you've never worked on a car before, you could take it somewhere, but then it comes non-cheap...i'd suggest doing it yourself, there's a procedure on www.motorvate.ca for cleaning it

That's a 4th gen Maxima, it's not that different on a 2k Max, and if its not included in the service, I highly recommend that you do that before anything else. I did it for the first time the other day and it wasnt hard at all.

check your air box for loose connections/leaks...or if you have an intake
if its not that could be ignition related (coils)

Yep, that's a 4th gen alright....it's almost an identical process for the 5th gen...while you have it taken apart, you can try cleaning the MAF with electronics cleaner too, but be real careful with that...good luck!

Do you lights dim any at all when driving the car. Like does it flicker a lot when the heater kicks in or the a/c. A possible grounding issue. But the T/B and spark plugs are the best start.

no theres no electrical problem that i can see. but it just revs itself up and down while im in park. wow, i got lots of different things to check. again im not exactly mechanically smart, so i may want to take it to nissan. by the way...wut is the MAF, is that the oxygen sensor? because i had those replaced with that 80k service.

MAF is the mass air flow sensor. Sits after the air filter and detects the amount of air coming in through the intake

ok thanx. i believe that was fixed, because the mechanic at nissan was complaining to me that I should not hav an aftermarket intake because it messes up your car. so he put back the original intake.

i took the car to the dealership
he said its the valve body or something
i asked if i can clean it, he said no
he also added that the part is on back order due to heavy demand and that nissan is redesigning that part because of malfunctions
shouldnt there be a call back for something like that??

another thing to check. PVC valve. I was talkin to my friend who's in the 4th gen forums, Cullen on the org. about idle and that's a possiblity that its getting stuck cause it's dirty.

Redesigning the part. I wonder if this has to do with a few people loosing screws from the butterfly? This is news to me. Who exactly said this?
