Auto vs. Manual

when i was getting my max i decided to go wit auto
1. i dont know how to drive stick
2. it's a lot easier wit all the traffic down here in miami

but now i dno sometimes i wish i would have gotten a manual i know they are fast but is it that much significantly faster?
my friend has a 2k3 ser spec v dropped n injen intake n we r both pretty even when we race sometimes. his is manual n he takes off a lot quicker dan me.
what you guys think.

big difference, especially in the 3.0 vq. my buddy has an auto 2k, and i have a 5spd 2k. we've raced from just about every roll, and from a dig. it's a joke.

i'll take it a step further. a 5 spd 3.0, give an AWESOME driver, has a 1/4 mile CHANCE against an auto 3.5.

I really don't think so I've raced one and the guy who raced me is very good but we both don't have any mod's and I got him by like two cars. If you know how to take off in a auto the stick won't get that much advantage on you at first

brake-torque it (or powerbrake, whichever way you call it) to about 2k rpms, let go of the brake and get on the gas at the same time, and off you go.

Best of Both world:

CVT(Lots of car company start to use this)
SMG II (BMW M3)
DSG (3.2 Audi TT)
F1 peddle shift (Ferrari)

But until they become more affortable (More common), I still prefer stickshift.

But some of you may notice the speed of technology in Automatic transmission has surpass manual interms of gears.

For example, BMW (think Mercedes too) already start to use 7 speed and 6 speed automatics.

It would be so weird to have 7 speed manual transmission on a stickshift. I mean I don't want to shift like a semi truck where they have like 12 gears to shift.

Yes, a little bit, but the best starts always have a LITTLE BIT of wheelspin.

You mean any 3.0 Max, right? 02 and 03 Maxs 6sp are dead even with the 5sp altima.

I have beaten a few 00/01's well driven manuals by about 2-2.5 cars through the 1/4 and beyond, our torque just over comes are tranny disadvantage in the beginning. We lose more power to the ground being auto but our torque.

Thats a pretty bold statement there, chief. How do you purport to back that up?

You are sure about that?

2003 Maxima, 3239 lbs.

2004 Altima SE, 3246 lbs.

Its a drivers race for all practical purposes, and not worthy of some unfounded blanket statement.

the SR-20 isn't that great a motor, stock. You gotta put a turbo or two on it to realize its potential.

just look at the numbers

old school SE-R; 2 liters, 140 hp.

newer spec V; 2.5 liters, 175 hp.

shouldn't talk when they dont know what they are talkin about..sr20 can boost and put down over 400+ WHP(WITHOUT INTERNAL WORK) where the QR dies at 250 WHP....

BTW, sr20deforum.com is your friend...we got a 200+WHP SR20 all NA.....

and....one turbo is enough on the SR....no one makes a twin turbo SR..its just not needed....
