My friend in looking to buy a max.
He found a 2003 SE Titanium package, leather, moonroof, BOSE 6 CD cd-changer, 10k miles, tinted windows, auto.
Car had one previous owner - not a lease or rental.
The dealer wants $21,000 even.
Does that sound like a good deal? They were asking $22,900, but settled at 21k.
NADA value is $22,300 retail.
Kelly is $24,000.
Thanks
Steve

I forgot to mention it is from a dealer.
Does that still sound like too much? Most dealers are asking around 20-21k around here.
WHat would be a fair price?
19.5k?
How do you make the dealer budge if they are saying 21k firm?
Does the invoice matter on a used car?
Thanks.

For a good comparison go to Autotrader.com and do a 100 mile search for used 02-03's, also Cars.com. Then you could check out Edmunds.com and Nada.com for retail/trade in values to compare. The dealer probably paid 17-18K for the car, give a litttle profit to the dealer and ask for high 19's low 20K if its a cash deal (do a Peoplefirst.com blank check for a good rate and then have the dealer match it w/NMAC if you need financing). Good luck.

Agreed. I would try to talk them down to under 20K.... Search other dealers further away from your area and see how much they are selling for, as darbowmach1 said.

That too much money for a used car especially this time of the year. Tell him to take his time and find a good deal, there is no reason to throw a few thousand $$$ away.
The sticker on my 03 SE (bought new) was $28,275. The same car with leather was about $30K. It took me 6 weeks to get them down to $21,500. That actually sounds like a good deal to me. Someone else said something about not knowing how it was treated. That's a gamble you take with any preowned car. Seeing as it has a 3 year / 36 month (transferable) bumper to bumper, I would not be real concerned. If you want it, go back, show some cash in hand, and say you'll sign a PSA right now for another $500 off. Chances are, he'll bite. Take the extra $500 and stick it away for services and enjoy the car...
