5.5th Gen Short Throw Shifter
5.5th Gen Short Throw Shifter
I'm just posting this to see if there's been any update on the progress of the STS. I can not remember but there was a couple of companies that were working on making these for our cars. Anyone know how that's coming along?

Its not really that easy. The major difference in the 2k2-2k3 shifter is its cable controlled. Not ROD controlled like the older models.
This makes it very hard to make one that will work accurately.

Well, I talked to Mossy performance today and they said that they have zero plans right now to come out with a short throw shifter for the Maxima. So, I guess we'll have to wait on B&M. I tried calling them earlier today, but again I stayed on hold for more than 5 minutes and I decided to hang up. Hopefully they'll do it soon.
Hopes?
I really want a short shifter for my 03 6 speed. I sat in a New G35 Coupe and that shifter is so hot. Short throws in every gear plus you only need a finger to move it. I will buy a short shifter as soon as one comes out, if they ever do!!!

I posted that I always was lead to believe that the max was cable too. And this poster insists the max is rod.
Now I am really confused...
If mine is rod shifted, it sure feels/sounds like cable to me.
If anyone can get their hands on one salvaged I know I can shorten the stock one.

All I need is the shifter and the reverse collar.
I know it may not be a true short throw but for the time being it'd be the best we've got. Shoot me a PM if interested.

the only way you can really shorten the throw on a shifter is if you move the fulcrum of the lever UPWARDS closer to the ****. This is usually accomplished by moving the rod downwards on the pivot (usually that little white ball thingy). I have no clue how this would work on a cable shifter, but I'm sure it's possible, lots of other cars with cable shifters have STS's available for them. Cutting the rod will only decrease your leverage and require more force to shift. Decrease of actual shifter throw will be marginal at best.
Those are the exact reasons I don't want to play around with mine or anyone elses. I'd like to fool with one out of a salvaged 5.5 gen. If it doesn't work or I FK it up no one is out anything.
I was able to find one last fall but the yard wanted almost 2 bills or it. I haven't toyed with the ieda since then. Maybe getting more of the assembly would be better so I could look at other options. But for the time being we've got gots so what there to loose. I'd just like to spend under $150 for one and see what I can come up with.
