I have a 2k1 max that has just over 1000 miles on it. There have been times when I try to start the car, it will not start. The starter is cranking but it never catches and the engine doesn't fire. When I stop and wait for a couple of seconds and try again, the car does start. This has happened 4~5 times in the 2 months that I've had the car. Does anyone else have this problem? Is there a way to fix it? Does anyone know why it does this?

The car is on level ground everytime in case that has anything to do with it. Thanks.

Try changing to a different brand of gas. Also, before starting the car, leave it in the 'ON' position so that the fuel pump pressurizes. Then start it.

I've had the same problem. I use only premium gas from a place I've been getting gas from for the past 7 years. Any ideas on what else it could be?

On the first fill up, I used premium from Amaco. From then on I use premium from Texaco. The brand of gas didn't make a difference because it didn't start with both brands. So I don't think it's the gas. Anymore more feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

I've had this happen a few times too... I guess you just have to turn the key to off, wait a few, and then try it again -- its always cranked this second time for me. Someone in the past has speculated that the car ends up with a rich mixture when you stop it -- I don't know enough about it to either prove or disprove this right now.

I've had the same problem...only 400 miles and at least half dozen times its hard starting...I have to crank it 3 times, several seconds each in order to start it. My 3G and 4G Maximas always started right up...I'm a little disappointed.

When you first start up, the car does run a very rich mixture. If you crank the engine and it does not start up a few times, you may flood it. When this happens, hold down the accelerator and then crank the engine for 5 or 10 seconds. This should clear out the flooding. I think this is also explained in the user manual
