real quick LED question

perhaps you have seen this subject many times.... but this is probably my last LED question. will a 74 wedge (or whatever type it is) fit in my instrument cluster? im pretty sure that it does, but my main question is if LED 74's will work because of its low wattage (i think its the wattage). reason being, my license plate light won't work with LEDs.. i guess cuz it requires such little juice. thanks in advance everybody.

also, how many would i need to change all of them?

I just went to change out the gauge cluster bulbs in my 2k GLE and the #74 bulbs did not fit in the cluster. They did however fit in the the illuminated key ring. The bulbs in the cluster were slightly fatter than the #74 bulbs that i got. Should've taken a comparison pic but i forgot. I'll be getting some #74 LED bulbs in a few days and i'll see if they fit any better. I'll take pics then as a comparison.

Well i got the #74 led bulbs and i was able to get them to fit because the holder was slightly larger than with the incandescent bulb by itself. However the bulb is not truely the correct size. Here is a comparison pic.

LED bulb, OEM bulb, and Incandescent bulb all #74

wowzers, thanx blueeyce. did you put the led's in yet? it looks like the base of the led's are plastic, possible to cut them to make it skinnier? or is the base all metal on the inside.....

I put the LEDs in. They look alright, but there are some bright/dull areas. And the needles are not lit up very well. So i'll probably end up taking them out eventually, but for now i'm just going to leave them in. I've taken the cluster out too many times lately and i'm just lazy. I'm still going to try and find some incandescent bulbs that fit better because they'll throw more light than the LED's.

some more pictures for better comparison....

bulbs 2 and 3 are the gauge cluster bulbs....bulb 1 is the gauge cluster bulb out of it's holder, and bulb 2 (amber) is a side marker bulb. it is only there for visual comparison of the truse size of these cluster bulbs.....
