Brake scraping/squealing...

well heres my dilemma..yesterday my rear pass. side brakes started making a constant squeal/scraping noise, even when Im not hitting the brakes..I took the wheel off and made sure the backing plate was not rubbing against the rotor....the brake pad still has plenty enough and I have about 23K miles on them...today it only makes the scraping/squealing noise when I press on the brake? anyone know whats going on?? please help, cause the sound is just really annoying..

Were the pads loose or sticking? How much clearance was there between the pad and rotor? They should last 50k or more on rear brakes.

I am having the exact same problem with the driver's side front brake. Everytime I get off the gas, I don't even have to be hitting the brake, there is this squeaking noise, and then when I hit the brake, it turns into a groaning, creaking noise. I know it isn't the brakes because I just had the front pads done and the rotors resurfaced.

pads are normal, just like the rest..still on the way home its just a constant scraping noise, and it sounds even worse when reversing!

I had the same problem come and go within 3 minutes. It was a HORRIBLE noise (I made a post here about it). I heard it, stopped, examined my car, couldn't find anything, got back in my car to drive off. As I was driving off, the noise increased in speed (like something spooling) and then just disappeared. I think a pebble got in the brake assembly, because the noise came and went.

Maybe there is something in there?
