Can you adjust auto headlight sensitivity?
posted in the i35 forum, no respones so far, so we'll try here.....
can you adjust the automatic headlight sensitivity? I've got an '02 I35.... everytime I pull in the garage, headlights come on (even in broad daylight). Garage is not that dark, but the lights are fairly sensitive to the change in ambient light... Is there a way to make them less sensitive, maybe more of a time delay before they come on?
thanks.

I dont think there is a way to adjust the sensitivity.
Are you talking about when you start your car in the garage, or when you pull in to the garage in the day light. If it is the later, there should be a time delay, becaues mine dont come on if I go through an underpass or pull into a garage for a minute.

After reading a couple of threads about adjusting the sensitivity of the automatic on/off feature for my Xenons, I decided to pay a visit to my dealer. Well, it turns out that once the car is hooked up to the dealer’s diagnostic computer, they can change several other settings at the same time.
These settings are not listed in the owner’s manual, or even in the books the repair guys use. Here are the settings you can change and the appropriate modes:
Door Lock/Unlock (with single click on keyfob)
Mode 1: Unlock left front door only
Mode 2: Unlock all doors
Anti-lock Out (prevents locking keys in car)
Mode 1: Master door lock switch can activate door locks w/ key in ignition
Mode 2: Master door lock switch cannot activate door locks w/ key in ignition
Dome Lamp Timer
Mode 1: Interior lamp comes on when left front door is unlocked
Mode 2: Interior lamp does not come on when left front door is unlocked
Retained Power (Amount of time windows and sunroof will operate after turning off ignition)
Mode 1: 45 seconds
Mode 2: No delay (Will not operate after ignition key is turned off)
Mode 3: 2 minutes

Mode 2: Lights come on sooner than factory setting
Mode 3: Lights come on later than factor setting
Mode 4: Lights come on later than Mode 3
Head Lamp Battery Saver (applies when headlights left in “on” position, not in “auto.”
Mode 1: Shuts lamps off after 5 minutes
Mode 2: No time delay (headlights turn off immediately)

Mode 1: 45 seconds
Mode 2: No Delay (lights turn off immediately)
Mode 3: 30 Seconds
Mode 4: 1 minute
Mode 5: 1 ½ minutes
Mode 6: 2 minutes
Mode 7: 2 ½ minutes

ah.. perfect, so there may be a way to adjust the sensitivity and/or time delay before they come on... Would this have to be done by the dealer? Or is this something we can do by ourself? Some of the other ones are interesting, as well... and can they be changed by us or do they have to be done by the dealer?
Basically, if it had a 30 sec/1 minute delay, it would allow me to pull in the garage and turn the car off before the 'auto' mode causes the lights to come on. Likewise when starting the car, it would give me enough time to backout of the garage so the 'auto' mode wouldn't cause the lights to come on. Right now, they come on immediately when I turn the car on.

I know you can change that on the stalk. I just want to completely disconnect that auto feature so that even when the stalk is switched to auto, no power at all is sent to the headlights. The reason I want to do this is because Im swapping the 2002-2003 headlights onto my car and I usually leave the stalk thing on off, and when you go to turn your headlights on, you pass auto, and if its dark it will turn on the ballast, turn it off when u pass auto, then turn it back on when u get to on. Im not sure I worded it correctly..... Its bad for HID to be flashed on and off thats the reason I ask.
