A LED question?

Dose any one know? On the driver side window switch and door lock there is two samll leds.
But now i need some info about the led i will install to the passenger side (Lock, window).
( ?mm, ?volt, ?ma , ?mcd . part# ? )
I used the white led for the driver side and i need some thing similar to it in the the passenger side.
Thank you very much

I just did this tonight with my rear window switches. I used blue led's int 5000, 20mA, 2.0 v. It doesn't matter too much what type of LED you use but you will have to get the proper resistor for it to work. I learned tonight to wire the resistor before the wiring harness. It worked perfectly, just wire in line with the negative and sauter your new LED on. If there's enough people interested I moght do a write-up. I took pictures of most processes. I may attempt the front switches tomorrow.

It would be nice of you if you do the write-up with picture .please

You wired the resistor on the negative side? I thought all LED's should have a resistor on the positive side in 12 volt connections. I wired the passenger switch this way. I soldered the resistor on the positive side of the LED and soldered the LED on the two copper contacts. I did not wire the resistor on the harness, though, because if you tap into the line, it cuts down all the other accessories in line with the whole switch, unless you tap individually to that accessory of whatever you are powering, such as the LED. I'm just wondering if anything is operating correctly from your connection?

I'm pretty sure you're supposed to tap into the negative with the resistor. It works either way. I've been playing with the LED's and a 12 volt battery. I found that if I tapped the resistor into the red and yellow wire before the harness it works perfectly fine. It does not interfere at all with other accessories. Maybe since you tapped into the positive is why you're seeing a voltage drop.

Yeah, I got ya. For the rear switches, I changed up by tapping into the red/white wire which is the positive side of the illumination wire. I didn't want to risk of possibly burning out the LED if I had the polarity reversed on the resistor, because it's hard enough putting these switches back together. I didn't want to open the switch and solder another LED. I'll try your way and see if it makes any difference. Thanks!

OK. For me to do a write up would probably take to long, but here is a good thread/site which is similiar.http://www.alexhsu.com/maxima/ledinstall/. There are pics, too. If anybody runs into trouble, I'll be glad to help because this mod took some time, especiallly the passenger's side switches and rear doors. They need to be pieced backed together correctly, or the switch will not work.

That is the write-uo I used but there are a few things I did different. He only did the driver's side. And also the LED's need to be swapped. The +'s and -'s are different on the 2 diffferent rows. Tonight I'll make a write-up on my cardomain site. I found the other switches easier than the driver's side. That is after I figured out how to do it.

Wow! You did better than me. I found it the opposite. The driver's side was a breeze, but the passenger's side and rear door window switches were a pain in the a$$. I had trouble with those springs and ball bearings staying together when putting the switches back together. Did you get it the first time when putting them back together?

You're fine. I used 4000mcd in 3mm size, and they're bright!

It does not matter electrically wether the resistor is before or after the LED. Resistors are not polarity senstive devices, but LED's (diodes) are.

hope that helps
