RPM too high??
RPM too high??
Hello,
I have yet another question about my max. It is a 2k2 GLE and I think there is something wrong with the RPM. When I am going 70mph on cruise, the RPM is almost 2500. When I compare this with a piece of $%#% Alero, that car does 70mph at about 2000 RPM. Higher RPM is causing more vibration in the car than what I would like. Just picky I guess.
The stealer..ooops..excuse me...dealer told me to do a throttle body clean-up.
The other thing I noticed was that from the twin exhaust pipes, all exhaust gases appear to come out of just one. The dealer said, if the engine light is not on then the oxygen sensors(??) are not picking up anything unusual. Till the light does not come on, there is not much they can do. I dont know if the two problems are related?
Any suggestions or comments?

Apples and oranges, man. Yours might just be like that. Deal with it.
A throttle body clean-up may help, I doubt it though. The RPM you sit at a certain gear is dependent more upon the transmission and drivetrain (gear ratios, etc.)
As for the exhaust pipes, that's also the way it is--our mufflers are a "Variable Capacity" type, where only 1 tailpipe is used until the exhaust backpressure rises high enough, in which case the 2nd one opens up (allows decent low-end torque, but opens up for more horsepower when we need it).
It's a very nice feature, not a problem

LOL....ahh, another satisfied previous alero owner huh?
How many problems with yours did you put up with before you decided to get rid of it?

Base models came with a dohc 2.4l with like 150hp/155tq (later models had 2.2 I4 with 140hp/150tq) . Mid and high trim levels the GL and GLS get the 3.4 (ohv I believe) with 170hp/200tq. I know 3.8l in camaro makes 200 hp.....not sure on tq.

Around 90MPH~100MPH in 6th Gear 3000~3200RPM

As you can see 6th gear is definitly a Over Drive gear for fuel economy, and probably 5th gear too.
1st gear doesn't really do anything since its so short, just get the car moving. 2,3,4 are performance gears.
