just bought my 1st Nissan, Max SE 2000

Hi,
This is the first time I own a Jap car, I bought a used 2000 Maxima SE with the 5-speed, man I love this car, the power is very smooth and the suspension is awesome. Black interior/exterior with the chrome wheels.

I got the car with 100k miles, I know thats a lot but the car is in showroom condition and runs like a dream. Is there anything I can do to further protect the engine and overal vehicle? what should I be on the lookout for at this kind mileage (highway miles definitely given condition of pedals, interior, cluctch, etc)

I plan to do some intake, exhaust mods in the near future.

Many Thanks.

I agree. Good choice on your car. My '00 is also black/black, 5-spd, I have leather interior fully loaded. But the big difference is my car only has 50k on it! Congrats!

congrats. if you think the suspension is good now, try a set of strut bars. that thing will handle like a dream. probly the best bang-for-the-buck handling upgrade on the max.

Make that a rear sway bar. The strut bar effect is pretty mild.

I got it for 11k, i know thats probably more than usual but the car is in super clean condition, like off the showroom and I also got with that a 3year/36k miles extended warranty, which given the 100k miles already on it I thought made sense......

You don't want to use Mobil 1 5w30 syntec if the car has over 100k. The engine will not last, use a name brand oil that's 10w30, it help's engines with high miles. BTW only use 5w30 if your car has under 50k miles(really made to run in new cars)...... or do what I do, 3 cans of Mobil 1 5w30 & 2 cans 10w30, and my car is at 53k.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also for a first mod, get a intake.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Only reason why you would stay away from synthetic on older engines is minor oil leak since synthetic oil is thinner than regular oil. Synthetic will not shorten engine's life. Synthetic will protect better than regular oil.

Try y-pipe for first mod.

well after a wash/wax here is a picture. The car is running awesome and after 5 days i have figured out the shifting right.
I want to add a Y-pipe, Intake and sway/strut bars. but I dont really want the car to get any louder if at all, will the intake and y-pipe make a loud exhaust? I also dont want to lose low end torque (as an ex-mustang GT driver i have to say a do miss the torque part)

Thanks, the maxima rocks and the forums also.....

Looks good.

Intake and Y-pipe will make your car louder but not as loud as an exhaust sytem.

man I hope I didnt get screwed, the tittle says SE as well as when I ran the VIN number in CARFAX....I know the chrome wheels are not factory so the original owner must have added then and maybe the chrome handles....what else is different from an SE and the rest??

If the grille has chrome around it then it is most likely a GLE.
The SE's had grey around the grille.

Sounds like you got a GXE with optional fog lights and spoiler.

I wish the picture was up... that sucks, if it has the black gauges and stick, its definitly a gxe, Post the pic i want to see it, but welcome to the maxima family. Dont be mad if you got a gxe, if your going to do mods then basically after u drop it all you will need to make it an SE is the gauges. Go all the maintance that the book says for 100k.

well so it looks like I bought a GXE and didnt check much....will I miss the "sport tuned" suspension? I was planning on adding loweing springs and shocks, and mught as well do the titanium gauges....

Question, I want to drop bout 1'inch and also dump the 16in wheels for 17 inches, what size rim, tire and springs?

Thanks for helping me find this out....

Does the Redline MT-90 leak? Cause I heard someone say when they put Redline in, it leaked very very very small. Almost not seeable.

If you have worn out seal, tranny will leak w/ Redline.

the sporttuned suspension is the struts/springs SEs have, so lowering springs and titanium gauges and your good, i forgot about the tails, SE's have carbonfiber surrounding the outside of the tails
