Need advise from 2k3 auto experts

Anyone else have this issue?

With shifter in 3rd gear @ about 3800 RPM, then WOT, the RPM goes up and then down and then finally takes off @ 4200.

With shifter in 1rst and 2nd it revs freely across this RPM band...the 2nd gear pull from 50 MPH causes a

The sound is like the engine forgets how to breathe and then it remembers how. Happens with both the stock air box and the Frankencar w/ A'pexi set up (the only mod)...but only happens in third gear.

First noticed at 10K miles, because I never stepped into it before that. Bought the car with 7 miles on it.

Had it at the dealer last month with the above explanation to the service writer. They 'discovered an old ECU program', so they did a reprogram. No change. Build date of car was August 2002. Always premium gas.

Need advice on next instructions to the dealer.

Thanks
Rob

I'll give it a try on mine see if it does the same thing. How fast are you going at 3800 and 4200 in 3rd?

How does the car feel when the RPM's drop, does if feel like your taking your foot off the gas, then putting it back on?

I have noticed that WOT doesn't do much at lower RPMS, the engine seems to respond the same if I floor it or I push it down just ahead of the RPM's. In fact it feels more responsive by not flooring it.

I'll see if mine does the same thing.

Just under 80...typical highway speed on I-476 so you don't get run over.

Car feels like a dog in this range. The strange this is, over 80 when the variable intake open at 4200 RPM plus, the car pulls like mad.

Thanks

sounds like maybe a transmission problem the way you said "With shifter in 3rd gear @ about 3800 RPM, then WOT, the RPM goes up and then down and then finally takes off @ 4200. " Almost sounds like the tranny could be slipping in the third gear. This also could be caused by low tranny fluid, have you check it lately? hope this helps

I hope not. Thinking its more the 'drive by wire, crappy ECU ' stuff.

Is there a post on your tranny issues?
