Anyone notice new non-HID lights on 5.5 gens??
Anyone notice new non-HID lights on 5.5 gens??
Ok... The first time I noticed halogen lighting on a 5.5 gen, I figured it was a custom job done by someone sick of getting his lights stolen. However, now I've noticed it on three different cars.
Does anyone "in the know" know about these halogen lights?
NOTE: These are not 5.5 gens fitted with 5 th gen lights... They are 5.5 gen housings emitting halogen lighting!!!!
Could Nissan be offering these as replacements for HID equipped customers who don't want to stay up all night?
An even better question is... What's the point???? If a thief will mistake 2000-2001 headlights on a 5.5 gen for HIDs, what’s going to keep them from trying to steal these non-HID “replicas”?

I called my local Nissan dealer, and the service dept. hasn't heard of this modification to the 5.5 headlight housing.
He has however heard that some body shops are retrofitting 5.5 headlights with 5th gen lights "including the 5th gen grill and bumper covers". So if anyone gets their lights jacked again, you might want to inquire with the body shop if they will do this for you before you hand over the keys.
PS - The service dept. concurred that they see no benefit to keeping the 5.5 gen housing and installing non-HID bulbs since no one can tell the difference when the lights are off.

I have never seen a GXE 2002-2003.
I have 2001 AE headlights on my 2002. My bodyshop did it for me. Around my area there are more 2002-2003 with the 2001 headlights than 2003-2003 with HID's. Everyone has had their taken and bodyshops are starting to help people by telling them that the 2001 lights fit into 2003-2003's unlike the Nissan dealer.
Doesn't make no sense. It would be more hassle to convert it to halogen than to just buy another HID bulb and stick it in the socket. Plus, what's the point? Thieves take it when you're not around and the car is off. They wouldn't know you're running a halogen bulb in there...
ive always thought that the reason for this would be someone who didnt want to get HID's stolen, so they bought the AE headlight to put on the 02-03. that way, it still looks like an 02, but the headlight cannot be stolen. makes sense to me if someone is sick of stupid azz theives. . .

All red tails are only available on 00-01 GXE and GLE models.
