The code is as follows (P1320):

Manufacturer Control Ignition System or Misfire. Have you replaced the ignition coil packs on your car yet?

Not offhand, but ask Maxima.org member DAVEB. He can hook you up, I'm sure...

Also, check the for sale forum.

600-700$ dealer job or 80$ per coil from 3rd party source, last time anyone mentioned the price. could have changed since then.

ok well this morning as im pulling out the driveway the whole car is rumbling, shaking i thought it was going to turn off (the car was already warm so its not like if i didn't heat up the car) , the SES light is now blinking for like 30 sec's then it will just stay on. the blinking happened basically through out my whole ride to work. Once i got to work the car wasn't shaking anymore. Is this one of the symptoms of the coils gone bad. I will speak to DAVEB ASAP , he already hooked me up with the MAF sensor.

Yes, that sounds like coils misfiring to me. Happened in my S/C'ed Bonneville once. Felt absolutely terrible (but my CEL never came on in that car!)

No way, the coils aren't nearly that expensive. I got all six shipped for about $300 USD. You can just install them yourself.

I was getting the same problems, MIL light on, rough engine and TCS Off/SLIP illuminated. I replaced the coils and plugs about five months ago and haven't had any problems since. This issue is very very common on the 99-2000 Max.

You don't have to replace the plugs, just the coils. But if you have 50-60k on the car, might as well do the plugs since you're right there.

I just got the same code as you, P1320, and the SES, TCS, and
SLIP lights all came on at first. Then after the next start up, only the SES light stayed on.

My coils should be in this week and I plan on doing it myself. If you can change your oil and filter, you should be able to do it. From what I've read the back three are alittle harder to do because of the tight area. You have to remove the bolts holding the ignition coils down then just twist them off the spark plug.

I don't know if there is a write-up or pictures on this forum. Anyone else know?

The instructions to change the spark plugs are in the owner's manual. If you don't have one, just go to nissan-techinfo.com and download it for free. If you aren't changing the plugs, the coils are dead easy to replace. Just take off the engine ornament panel, unplug and unscrew the coils, plug in the new ones and screw them back in.

The back coils are a bit tough to reach, make sure you stretch out your back :-)

May I ask where you ordered the coils from at that price?
