center console on '03 manuals

whenever i'm shifting through gears my center console pops up. Usually going from 3rd to 4th, my elbow hits the button that makes the top part pop up, it gets in the way when I'm trying to get into 6th... does anyone know how to disable the latch (if it's even possible)

It basically depends on how your seat is oriented to the center console. The further back you sit, the less chance your elbow has to catch the switch.

hah! So I'm not the only one who has this problem!? Well, misery loves company. I've learned to lift my elbow when shifting into reverse (when this usually hits me). I'd be interested in disabling this button as well. I'll look into this next weekend if someone doesn't beat me to it.

Leave the armrest up all the time, theres a solution.
Maybe i am the odd man out on this since i am six foot three and i it is perfect for me to leave it up all the time.

When I buy my car, the first 3-4 month was very annoying because of this but now I don't touch it anymore!!

I've saw a reporter saying that this was a big default in the Max

naah I'm only 5'6" and i sit with my legs in close and leaning back so if i leave it up all the time i'd crash into it every time i shifted. ... i'm thinking crazy glue or rubber cement

I had trouble learning how to let out the clutch with my knee going sideways between the door and the wheel, with the seat all the way back i still struggle with lack of leg room, but i love the max too much to ***** about the small stuff
