TEIN Super Street Damper kit

is this the only coilover system for the 5th gen? does anyone on the board have a set of coilovers on their ride?

If you're a weekend driver, get Tein springs and some good struts/shocks.....you would never make use of coilovers ......

i believe they're worth it, even though if your just street driving, one day you might want to go up to the mountains or just go to the track.. and you'll be glad you go them.

I MAY take it to the track someday, but not in the near future.

kloogy - why do you think I would never use the full potential out of coilovers?

I race as much as I can at Fontana. I never do any road course racing........If I was to get Coilovers, it would be a total BLING mod......Thats ok, if thats where you want to put your $$......I was about to order some Tein coilovers myself, and went with Koni Yellows, and Tein springs.....I bet you that my setup can hang with any Max on Tein coilovers.....I had Koni's before, so I know how they handle

Honest opinion. I could BARELY afford my JIC coilovers. Ive never been on the road course....or anything serious. I do mess around, on the streets, in the canyon. Honestly I probably should have kept the money and went with Illuminas or AGX's. But it is nice to have the adjustability, the low but comfortable ride. Just put it this way, do you wanna spend that money?!

Compared to regular adjustable struts, how does the JICs range compare, to say, the tokico illumina?

coilovers is must in NYC. tein and Illuminas don't last more than 2 years.

do the coilover struts have more control than the aftermarket strut with the most control out there?

meaning, JIC strut=illumina strut in terms of range of control? or less/greater range?

They are worth it if you are never satisfied with how your drop looks like I am. I love being able to adjust the car to my preference without having to switch out springs. I think it is one of the best purchases i've made

I think what he is means - will collies handle better than illumina with tein. The answer is yes of coarse, because of the shorten strut. So, it has more room to travel before bottom out or each springs coil hiting each other. I don't know the about comforte level? If want a drop that very low (like tein) or lower, and live in a pot hole city. you need coilover.

Some peoples from NYC (in the org) ran lowering srings with gr2. after a year they say they need coilovers, I wander why?
personally, I won't dump money $700 on tein and illumina. I rather spend the 2 grand and geting it right the first time.

Wait, im getting confused TIEN DAMPER KIT is a full coil over with strut system. now NYCTAR is saying he'd rather spend 2 grand rather than 700 bucks on TEIN & Illumina. KEEP IN MIND, TEIN makes springs, and they make full coilover kits.

JICs are strictly COIL OVER KITS, threaded strut body wiht a spring over it. JIC coil over systems have much more adjustablity than a adjustable strut mated with a set of lowering springs.

that is pretty much what I needed to read. I dont think I will go with the coilovers though, since it is a pretty penny, and roads here in socal aren't as bad as the east coast people make theirs out to be.

I have the Tein Super Street dampers with the EDFC on my Max and they kick ***! The car rides better than stock even though it is almost tuckin tire front and rear. I put 1500 miles on it last week (road trip)and still can't get over how smooth the ride is! And with the EDFC, you can adjust the struts from inside the cockpit. Soft on the highway, firm in the canyons! I would definately recommend them.

You are right...EDFC = Electronic Damping Force Controller - It is a small electronic controller that allows you to adjust the front separately from the rear in 16 step increments. It works great and even has 3 presets. The SS damers are around $1000 retail and the EDFC is around 600 if I remember right. March issue of Modified has a build on it with the Tein Flex Coilovers in a Talon. Page 73 if you can find one.

thats the route i'm planning to take: tein coilovers with edfc. There is not much differences between the JIC and Teins to justify the extra price, considering I can get the teins for less than $750

JIC's retain full suspension travel at any height setting and come with front upper pillow ball mounts. Since the Teins do not, that would justify the price difference for me.
