Has anyone else had their 2000-2001 Maxima dovelop wierd patches of paint that appear to be chipping off in a large squarish shape?? I've just noticed it and haven't had it checked out yet, just wondering if anyone else knew anything about it.

I havent seen that, but I have seen a lot of other problems...
There is this odd looking thing coming out of my wood. Some guy calls it a "Shifter" but I figure its a problem. Got to go to the dealer and get it fixed. You know something else? When I turn a staff located on the steering column, 2 odd looking things located on the front of my car illuminate. Does anyone know what these are? Got to go to the dealer and get that fixed... Man, what about that odd liquid coming out of two things on my hood? And some black things move when the liquid hits the windshield. Dealership...

Near the rear door, down around the bottom close to the rear wheel, there is a "square" looking something or another. It looks like tape applied to the car, then painted over to match the color of the car.

Is this what you are speaking of?

I believe this is some type of way to further protect the metal from years of abuse from stuff coming up from the road.

Is this the same thing?

Right. My RX-7 had smooth looking painted along the top, but the paint became "rippled" near the ground. This apparently made the paint tougher from stuff coming up off the road.

I am just wondering if this is what they are questioning. However, they speak of "chipping off in large squares". This may be something different.

I've developed some "chip" marks but they are from direct hits from: (1) a rogue 18-wheeler blown tire piece (2) a rock or two hurling towards my car at highway speed.

Square thingy

My first AE (damn that sounds weird) had a patch of Grey Lustre (it was a sterling mist car) behind the rear door. Obviously a paint glitch, beneath the clear coat. I discovered it the day after I bough my car and got it fixed. Does it look like another Max color?

Remember those patches you could purchase and put on blue jeans? They were blue jean material, but not the same color of the jeans you were putting them on. Just a thought

I think they may be those tape things you were talking about, too late to check now. But they aren't applied in a straight line and the edges are jagged so maybe that's why I noticed it. I'll check about it and thanks.
